Some people are under the impression that a remake of a movie is a bad thing and will only kill the original heart of the film. Some think that the remakes are actually better thanks to advanced technology. In truth both versions are just as great since it’s what the people of that era had to watch, and it’s what we use to realize just why movies are the way they are now.
King Kong
You look back now and realize that Kong didn’t really look that big and bad despite being so much bigger than everyone else.
Kong: Skull Island
From stop motion to CGI Kong has only gotten bigger and meaner, and the fun thing is that according to the movie he’s not fully grown yet.
The Mummy
This film was actually scary back in its time. It had the advantage of being a core movie monster film that had the element of surprise.
The Mummy
By now this idea has been so overdone that doing it again and then again is just making it go so far over the top that it’s no longer that enjoyable save for the effects.
Planet of the Apes
It had its critics and its fans, but overall it was a well done film and a revolutionary piece of work.
War for the Planet of the Apes
So far we’ve been led up through an origin story to the supposed terminus point that would be the original idea for this franchise. Mark Wahlberg’s attempt was kind of pitiful really.
Superman
This one is all about effects really. The man of steel has always been an icon to the people of justice and liberty, but his effects team haven’t always been up to snuff until recently.
Man of Steel
The opposite seems to have happened as the years have gone by. The effects are great, but the story line needs help.
Godzilla
A lot of people preferred the guy in the rubber suit to the remake of Godzilla starring Matthew Broderick, and no one can really blame them.
Godzilla
Despite being mostly CGI at this point, Godzilla has finally been taken back to his roots in terms of story line.
Titanic
The drama and fanfare needed for this kind of story was kind of lost in its original version, mostly because it didn’t seem like the drama or action was real.
Titanic
That changed a great deal with CGI and other special effects that granted the viewer a close up of those people that were unfortunate enough to be near the ship when it was sinking.
The Incredible Hulk
Admit it, when you were a kid you ‘hulked out’ with the character whenever he went from Bruce Banner to the Hulk.
The Incredible Hulk
This version is just bit better since the Hulk is about the right size now and looks like he’s ready to tear someone in two half the time.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Gene Wilder absolutely made this film and there are talks now about John Stamos taking over his role for an upcoming play.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
I don’t care what anyone says, this was not one Johnny Depp’s better roles.
Batman
Back then it probably looked impressive to see a guy in a felt suit and leotards acting like a superhero.
The Dark Knight
I think the previous guy would have had second thoughts about taking on his replacement to see who was really Batman.
Dracula
Some classics you just don’t mess with. Bela Lugosi was the gentlemanly vampire that was still as scary as anyone could possibly be.
Dracula Untold
Despite the dismal ratings and failure at the box office Luke Evans was still a fair hand at recreating the role of Vlad the Impaler.
Robocop
There are some movies that can’t be topped simply because their plot and premise isn’t that great to begin with. Odd I know I but it happens.
Robocop
The look is updated but it’s not necessarily an improvement. Plus, the movie was just a wreck.
Alice in Wonderland
There have been a few attempts at this story and the ones that went strictly by the book were a bit disturbing.
Alice in Wonderland
This film took a lot of elements from the book but also incorporated a new and updated feel to the movie that was great.
Star Trek
Many upon many Trekkies are seriously wishing that the original show could have gone on forever.
Star Trek: Beyond
We don’t have to worry about alien drones anymore, just blasting the Beastie Boys will save us.
The 300 Spartans
If any of the Greeks were alive that fought with the Spartans they might be miffed at the omission.
300
The remake was just awesome, but definitely not as historically correct. It was a very glamorized version of the history that actually happened.
Jurassic Park
Watching the T-Rex open its mouth to roar was one of the best experiences this film could have offered.
Jurassic World
Watching the I. Rex get owned by the T-Rex and the raptor was just epic.
The Hobbit
It didn’t make a lot of sense to see a dwarf without armor or some kind of awesome weapon, but it was the times and some directors went more with the prose of the books.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
A lot of this is probably glammed up beyond belief and not at all historical, but then again it is fantasy so it’s totally allowable.
IT
Tim Curry, legend, ’nuff said.
IT
Bill Skarsgard, up and coming great. He’s definitely going to be remembered.
Nightmare on Elm Street
There are just some horror movies you don’t mess with no matter how cheesy they get.
Nightmare on Elm Street
Jackie Earle Haley is a great actor but this was not his role.
Alien
Remember back when the xenomorphs actually looked scary?
Alien: Covenant
So yes, the origin of the xenomorphs is a work in progress, but hopefully they get to the link between the movies soon and make it good.
Without the movies of back then we wouldn’t have the movies of now.
