If Christopher Walken opened a coffee shop I’m not sure if any of this would really apply. On that note, have any of the people voicing the characters for this video ever watch a film with Christopher Walken in it? It’s fair enough to say that his voice is hard to get right with the accent and the inflections but there’s almost nothing of the smooth and charismatic attitude I was hoping for and the Free Trade crack, which is aimed at the coffee business, doesn’t make a lot of sense with him added into the mix. To be honest I was looking for more inferences about his career and highlights that might have made it into the interactions between him and the customers.
He’s had so many great roles and great lines throughout his career that it would have made a lot more sense to focus on his characters and less on the coffee shop or the disgusting things that people kept getting as the video went on. It doesn’t make a lot of sense other than to say that if Christopher Walken opened a coffee shop the customers would be better served to just take their coffee and go and by all means use real measurements rather than a pinch or a dash or anything that’s hard to figure out. That’s annoying to people that DON’T work in coffee shops since there’s no real way to know just how much a pinch or a dash is to different people. One person’s pinch could be another person’s dash.
And the attitude, the smooth-talking, devil may care attitude that Walken is so well known for that’s punctuated at times by the sudden freakout that he’s so great at, I was kind of waiting for that as well. Like his voice it’s hard to do right, so perhaps that’s why it wasn’t included. Maybe for another video the person that did it this time could work on it and watch a performance or two of Walken’s to try and get it down. There are just some celebrities you shouldn’t try to emulate unless you know how to do their voices and copy their mannerisms well enough that it can come through in the right way.
I have to admit that I’m a bit of a Christopher Walken fan and whether or not the people that did the video are as well they still went a little wide of the mark. I think perhaps they should watch Christopher Walken reading The Three Little Pigs to get a better idea of how to portray him and possibly gain a little more insight on how he sounds. No offense to the people doing the video but it sounded as though the script was thrown together in a matter of minutes and walked through without any real emotion. And what in the world was Dracula doing there? Maybe Christopher should have stabbed him in the face with a soldering iron. In any case, maybe the video just needed a little infusion of cowbell.
