Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cast: Where are They Now

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is an iconic supernatural series that premiered in 1997 with seven thrilling seasons pulling fans into the world of vampires, witches, and werewolves. The series follows teenager Buffy Summers, played by the talented Sarah Michelle Gellar, as she deals with love triangles, friendship problems, and fighting monsters in this 90s drama.

While the story was epic, it’s the cast that made viewers tune in over and over again. Although the series ended in 2003, it wasn’t the end of the cast’s acting careers. Most of the main cast members went on to star in hit TV series and movies. For fans who are curious about what happened to their favourite actors, here is what the cast has been up to since Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended in 2003.

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy

Buffy

Gellar plays the young Buffy as she is thrust into a life of fighting vampires in the never-ending battle of good versus evil. After the Buffy the Vampire Slayer finale in 2003, Gellar didn’t waste any time, going back into acting with a lineup of impressive movie roles like 2004’s The Grudge, The Air I Breathe (2007), and Possession in 2009. While these movies were great, it was her role as Daphne in the Scooby Doo films that really made her a movie star. She met her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr, on the set of the horror movie I Know What You Did Last Summer in the late 90s and they’ve been together since. Gellar also appeared in several TV shows like Ringer and The Crazy Ones. Aside from acting, Gellar spends her time with her two beautiful children, and she’s also written a cookbook, Stirring Up Fun with Food, in 2017. In 2023, Gellar went back to the small screen on the Paramount + series Wolf Pack.

Nicholas Brendon as Xander

Xander

Nicholas Brendon played one of Buffy’s best friends, Xander. His character went through a lot on the show, from almost always being killed to dating a demon; Xander didn’t get the best storylines. After the show ended, Brendon was in the media for several reasons, from domestic abuse to legal problems and his struggle with addiction. He still managed to appear in several projects like Criminal Minds, Wanton Want (2021) and Dawn(2022). His issues with drugs, according to the actor, were because of lumbar back pain that was made worse when he was arrested and spent time in jail. The actor also suffered two heart attacks and is on a long recovery journey. Brendon shared details of his recovery journey on Instagram after a long six-month hiatus. Brendon also loves to spend time creating art.

Alyson Hannigan as Willow

Willow

Alyson Hannigan plays Buffy’s sidekick and witch, Willow, who helps them survive several dangerous situations. Hannigan gained even more fame when she appeared in the American Pie movies, which led to her role in the successful comedy How I Met Your Mother, her second successful TV show. Hannigan is married to former Buffy co-star Alexis Denisof. The two have been married for decades and have two children. In 2023, she starred in the dancing reality TV show, Dancing with the Stars and seems to be happier than ever.

He has also been a part of the podcast Slayers: A Buffyverse Story. The podcast features several cast members from the Buffy series, like Drussila, Tara, Indira, and Cordelia. Head has also appeared in shows like Bridgerton on Netflix, Ted Lasso on Apple TV, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Imagine Me and You, and The Iron Lady. Head has two children with his partner, Sarah Fisher.
