Brad Pitt and George Clooney Reunite in the Slick Trailer for ‘Wolfs’

Brad Pitt and George Clooney are striking up chemistry yet again in the crime thriller Wolfs. The two Oscar-winning A-listers last shared the screen together in the Coen Brothers’ 2008 movie Burn After Reading. Although the movie slipped under the radar somewhat with larger audiences, it fared well with critics and boasted a great dynamic between Pitt and Clooney in their short but memorable scene together.

Outside of Burn After Reading, the two stars have shared larger amounts of screen time together in the Ocean’s trilogy. In Wolfs, they will be sharing the two lead roles of the picture. So, as the trailer drops, let’s break down everything we know about Wolfs.

Breaking Down the Trailer for Wolfs

The official trailer for Wolfs opens to blaring sirens and a suave looking Brad Pitt swiftly jumping out of a car with a pistol in his hand. From here, the footage oozes a crime noir feeling like something from a Coen Brothers movie. George Clooney’s mysterious character shows up to the scene of a killing to clean things up, stating “There’s nobody that can do what I do.” However, this perception is shattered when Pitt’s character shows up equipped with a pair of rubber gloves, looking to do exactly the same thing – clean up the crime scene. Shrouded in the perplexity of the situation, the two are told they must work together, something neither men seem happy with whatsoever.

Before the full-length trailer was released, a snippet landed the day before. This scene perfectly encapsulated the tone of the movie – a hushed scene where Pitt and Clooney display great disdain for each other while they drive in complete silence, with only the windscreen wipers providing sound. Going back to the full-length trailer, Wolfs feels like it is set to be a perfect balance between crime, thriller, and dark comedy, with a healthy splash of action. The colour grading is dark and bleak, possibly representing the emptiness of the two lead character’s lives as “fixers” who operate on the wrong side of the law.

What Is the Plot of the Movie?

Brad Pitt and George Clooney in Wolfs (2024)

Outside of what can be dissected from the trailer, Wolfs‘ plot line has been kept rather ambiguous. The official synopsis simply reads: “Follows two lone wolf fixers who are assigned to the same job.” From this, it’s safe to assume that the majority of the movie’s themes will be drip fed as the mystery unfolds. Again looking at the trailer, the man they are sent to dispose of actually wakes up, leading to even more confusion and chaos. From here, the two fixers who clearly despise the company of others, must now work together, adding a layer of humour to the movie.

Who Else Stars in Wolfs?

Amy Ryan in Wolfs (2024)

Perhaps the biggest name to join Brad Pitt and George Clooney in Wolfs is Amy Ryan. The Oscar-nominated actress is best known for her roles in acclaimed movies like Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, Gone Baby Gone (her Oscar-nominated role), and Birdman. Wolfs will mark the second time Ryan has shared the screen with Clooney, after starring in a 1995 episode of ER. As of yet, her character name is unknown, as with everyone else in the cast. However, playing the woman who calls for help, her role seems to be rather substantial to the story.

Other cast members include Austin Abrams (Paper Towns), Poorna Jagannathan (The Night Of), and Irina Dubova (Hunters). Wolfs was written and directed by Jon Watts, most renowned for directing Tom Holland and Zendaya in the latest Spider-Man trilogy, vastly different pictures in comparison to this subtle crime thriller. However, Watts has showcased his faculty for more understated and gritty material with his indie movies Clown (2014) and Cop Car (2015) starring Kevin Bacon.

When Will the Movie Be Released?

Wolfs (2024)

Wolfs is scheduled for release on September 20, 2024. The movie was initially announced to be an Apple TV+ original. Brad Pitt and George Clooney are serving as producers on the picture, with both of their production companies coming on board – Plan B Productions and Smokehouse Pictures. Apple is still involved in the movie after winning a bidding war against Sony, Lionsgate and Netflix. This means the movie will likely land on Apple TV+ in the months following its cinematic release. However, more details around that matter are yet to be announced. Until then, read about Apple TV+’s upcoming crime drama series Presumed Innocent.
