Bill O’Reilly was a guest on Fox & Friends Tuesday morning and had an “interesting” comment about California Congresswoman Maxine Waters. Apparently O’Reilly wasn’t fully able to listen to what Waters had to say because her “James Brown Wig” was too distracting to him. When Fox News played a clip of Waters speaking, O’Reilly commented that he was unable to hear a word that she said. When he elaborated he said,
“I was looking at the James Brown wig,” O’Reilly said, while his co-hosts laughed hysterically. “If we have a picture of James Brown… It’s the same one.” The one Fox & Friends co-host who didn’t think any of this was funny was Ainsley Earhardt, who told O’Reilly that he can’t criticize a woman for her looks. “I think she’s very attractive,” Earhardt added. “I love James Brown, but it’s the same hair, James Brown – alright, the godfather of soul – had,” O’Reilly insisted. “Whatever it is, I just couldn’t get by it.”
As you can imagine people on Twitter were none too pleased. O’Reilly was accused of racism and rightfully so. Below you’ll find the clip and a picture of James Brown.
UPDATE: Bill O’Reilly has apologized
“As I have said many times, I respect Congresswoman Maxine Waters for being sincere in her beliefs. I said that again today on Fox & Friends calling her ‘old school.’ Unfortunately, I also made a jest about her hair which was dumb. I apologize.” — Bill O’Reilly
Are the hairstyles similar? Somewhat yeah, but what O’Reilly said certainly won’t be tolerated, nor was it appropriate.
