Bill Hader was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to promote his new film, The BFG, which hits theaters next Friday, July 1. In the Steven Spielberg-directed Disney film, Hader plays the giant Bloodbottler, but during his interview with Kimmel, he spent a lot of time talking about another character from a Disney property that he helped portray. That, of course, would be BB-8, the droid who, despite the popularity of Rey, Finn, and Poe, may have been the most beloved new character from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In the video below, Hader describes the process for creating BB-8’s voice and the role he played in doing it. While he helped come up with some of the noises and sounds that the droid makes throughout The Force Awakens, it wasn’t actually his voice that was used in the movie, which is why he’s listed as a “voice consultant” on the film. No matter what his title on the movie was, though, Hader said that, as a huge Star Wars fan, he could not have be more grateful for the opportunity that J.J. Abrams gave him.
“He’s just a nice person to give me a credit,” Hader said about Abrams. “J.J. is just the nicest guy in the world and knew I was a big Star Wars fan.”
