It’s been almost thirty years since Beetlejuice was released in cinemas and a sequel is still in the works until today. Warner Bros. has hired a new writer who will work on the rewrite of the script. Hopefully, that will finally be the right one that will lead for the sequel to officially happen.
Deadline has reported that Mike Vukadinovich has been hired by Warner Bros. to rewrite the script of Beetlejuice 2. There’s no deal yet for Tim Burton and Michael Keaton to return on the sequel but they are both interested to be part of it. They are currently working on the upcoming live-action Dumbo movie. Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg will produce the sequel. However, there’s no word if Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis will be part of the movie. In an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers last August 2015, Winona Ryder confirmed that she will be part of the sequel and that it has been in the works for quite some time.
Vukadinovich wrote the screenplay of the film Rememory starring Peter Dinklage. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. He also wrote for the upcoming TV show Marvel’s Runaways and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, a feature film based on the Disneyland ride, for Disney. The original Beetlejuice movie was released in 1988 to box office and critical success. It gained a cult following years after.
The sequel has been on development since 1990 and it was called Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian but it didn’t move since then. Warner Bros. is trying their best to make the sequel since fans have been requesting for it plus Burton and Keaton have expressed interest to return which is a good sign. So far, there’s no release date scheduled for the sequel. There’s also no report yet about what the story of the sequel will be about. We’ll keep you updates for any news regarding this.
