The “Automata” Trailer Promises “Neon Nightmares and Scary Dolls”

There aren’t a lot of horror films today that actually scare you to the core. Most films will get away with jumpy scare tactics that seek to shock rather than scare. The geniuses behind Hex Studios have managed to put together everything that’s creepy in the world into one film, and watching the trailer alone will make you chuckle in the end because of how it actually made you feel whilst you watched it.

Automata, you are the long-awaited horror film that this generation’s been waiting for. Automata is the simple story of an antiques expert and his journey to authenticate a doll. It’s no ordinary doll, however, as we immediately sense from the way she’s being talked about in the trailer and what people were willing to pay just for her authentication. The doll is the “Infernal Princess,” a clockwork doll that’s easily 300 years old. The doll’s history is lost to us at this point, but we know it’s not good.

Throughout the trailer, we get flashes of men in wigs and costumes. We see shadows of hands reaching out and neon lights giving everything an eerie look. Actually, the entire trailer feels eerie. We feel for the antiques expert because his job at this point seems steep. The doll has some kind of pull on him, and we’re not sure what it is, but all the nightmarish visuals just point to the door. Get out of there as soon as you can and never look back.

Automata is directed and written by the founders of Hex Studios, Lawrie Brewster and Sarah Daly respectively. They’ve done a great job of keeping us in the shadows with the trailer and creeping us enough to be curious. We love to get scared, and Automata looks like just the kind of film to get the job done right.
