In the history of film it’s often been seen that the mother character is one of the most overworked and underappreciated individuals in the story. You can see it throughout so many films that it finally seemed to need to be addressed in a way that was a wake up call to the audience and to the film industry. Bad Moms wasn’t just about moms finally saying ‘enough’ and taking back some of their freedom, it was a statement that made a very large argument than moms are not merely the housekeeper, the bread-winner, or any number of things that people take for granted so often, they’re human beings that want to cut loose every now and again without having to ask for permission. Of course taking care of one’s family is important and the idea of being there for them no matter what is essential. But the idea of being able to have your own life is something that’s just as important as it allows an individual to develop into their own person and into the type of mother that is able to care so much more for their family. The idea of bringing up a Bad Moms 3 is kind of tricky since so far they’ve covered one big issue about being a mom and one major holiday. But there’s definitely more material for another one to work.
With the success the first two had a third should be handled with care, but still considered as a big possibility.
There’s a strong possibility it could happen.
The producer, Suzanne Todd, seems to think that there’s a very good chance that a third movie could be in the works, especially since the second movie did far better than a lot of people believed it could. It’s tough sometimes trying to gauge just how people will respond to sequels since a lot of folks will agree that sequels are, by definition, inferior to the first film since they’re a continuation and not always groundbreaking. But along with a few other films in history Bad Moms 2 managed to live up to the hype and in some ways even outdo the first one, though only in moments that were seen here and there. Plus, adding in stars like Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon, and Cheryl Hines added a great deal of interest to the film since their use in comedies is something that was bound to raise the interest level in this film. If they were to come to back it would no doubt give the third film an instant leg up since their inclusion was a big reason why the sequel was so great.
There are other avenues that the story line could go down.
There are plenty of holidays out of the year that could be explored and one big idea that seems like it would be absolutely great would be to advance the story several years in the future so that the moms can experience their eldest going off to college, or trade school, or something since not all the kids are quite that bright. The main point would be to hit another transition in the lives of the moms and show how they deal with it in their different ways. This could keep a third movie from becoming the expected flop that a lot of third films unfortunately run the risk of being. It’s easy to believe that if a sequel flops that the third movie will be the redemptive film, but in this case the sequel didn’t flop and as a result the third movie would have to raise the bar again in an effort to stay true to the first two. It’s very possible, but the film would have to be given the right touch in order to keep it at least level with the first two.
There are a lot of actresses that could be used for future roles.
Whether the film could draw any of them in isn’t that much of a given but there’s always the possibility of casting those that could act as extended family members, dear friends, etc. There’s almost no way to exhaust the list of actresses that could be signed on for such a movie as motherhood is something that many people have experienced and no doubt are willing to share when it comes to how they’ve lived their lives. Plus it would be fun to see other personalities enter the mix just to see how they would be cast together and how they would react to one another. Mila Kunis and Christine Baranski didn’t really look alike enough to be mother and daughter to be honest but their on screen chemistry was still pretty good and made it work. It takes a lot of things to make a successful movie, but the right cast is one of the most key elements that any film can hope for.
Who else would love to see a Bad Moms 3? Yeah that’s right, hands up.
