An Awesome Fight Between Flashpoint Batman and Erik Killmonger

Flashpoint

Want to know the real superpower of anyone wearing the Batman outfit? They’re super paranoid since they’re prepared for pretty much anything and know tactics that should by all means be laughable to just about anyone that is set on taking them out. It’s true that Killmonger tipped his hand a bit by taking out Bane, which set Thomas Wayne’s mind to racing on how he might tip the scales back in his favor, but Killmonger is a guy that’s taken out Black Panther, and in turn Black Panther has the capability to take out Batman, so you would think that Killmonger shouldn’t have much of a problem with anyone in the batsuit. But then again Flashpoint Batman is kind of a different animal since he’s a little more violent and a lot more capable of killing than the original Batman ever seemed to be. The easy thing to do is claim that it all comes down to the writers and what they think is going to be the best idea for this clip, especially since it seems as though more people voted that Flashpoint Batman would be able to take Killmonger down by keeping him talking and banking on the idea that he had more tools to use than his enemy did.

In a straight one on one brawl though, with the suite already on and granting Killmonger the kind of power and invulnerability that he so readily enjoys, Wayne wouldn’t have stood a chance since it was already established that Killmonger was just as skilled if not more so and a great deal stronger. The problem with talking too much however is something that seems to happen to a lot of heroes and villains alike. Why deliver a speech when the end result is that you’re there to kill your opponent? Why bother letting them know what you want to do when your actions can make that pretty clear? That’s the downfall of way too many people, especially villains, when it comes to getting their way. But guess what? It’s more dramatic and it seems to give a lot more chance of dialogue that people seem to want. Instead of just getting down to business folks seem to want to hear the villains and heroes get into a debate before throwing down and getting to it.

I could ask if anyone is really getting tired of Batman being just the epitome of awesome no matter who he goes against, but of course those that love Batman would easily say ‘no’, because quite honestly he’s become one of the standard heroes that people look up to. The problem is that his legend has grown to such an extent that he’s become all but unbeatable by heroes and villains that are so overpowered that even his superior thought processes couldn’t help him. In other words Superman would still be beyond him, the Phoenix would be beyond, all because their power levels are simply so insane that even standing up to them would be a death wish on Batman’s part. Other than that, it seems that the writers are of the mind that if he has enough time to plan then he has the tools and the ability to beat just about anyone. Even the rare loss that he’s taken seems to be a huge event that people ‘ooh’ and ‘aww’ at since even taking him down seems to be a monumental task. There are actually heroes and villains that should have left him as a dark smear on the ground that were somehow beaten by him because of his superior planning.

So maybe the superpower of being paranoid isn’t the only advantage that Batman has. The writers are perhaps his greatest superpower since like any hero or villain they’ve been given free license to jack his intrigue and power up to such a degree that even being a human in peak condition going against metahumans doesn’t put him at a disadvantage. The writers will, as they usually do, up the ante by saying ‘oh but he has this, and this, and this because he’s an expert tactician’. It’s funny how they didn’t really factor in that Killmonger is more than just a brawler, as this is a guy that planned and plotted to take down a king for crying out loud. A king that can take Batman down no less.

Ah well, it’s a fictional story and meant for fun and entertainment right? It was an entertaining fight, there’s no doubt about that, but the simple cut that was enough to take Killmonger down thanks to Batman’s need to have a solution for everything was enough to end it. It’s true that a lot of people are salty since Batman seems to be in the favor of the writers quite often since he’s a moneymaker, but it might be time for the legend to finally suffer a few significant losses yet again.  Jonathan H. Kantor of CBR actually highlights a few characters that might be able to make such a thing happen.
