Is Pam Dawber’s NCIS Appearance a Prelude to Mark Harmon’s Exit?
After 18 seasons, Pam Dawber finally joins the cast of NCIS, playing a journalist seeking a story. With Gibbs’ role seemingly diminishing, especially if NCIS gets renewed for a 19th season, we might see less and less of Mark Harmon. Rumors suggest he might be looking to step away from the show after all these years. The big question is: can NCIS survive without Gibbs?
While Gibbs has taken a backseat in previous storylines, those instances were purposefully written. It’s not hard to believe that Harmon might want to finally call it a day and move on to other projects. Perhaps Pam’s arrival is timed to share some final moments with him, as the rumors and her casting seem quite fortuitous. It’s just a thought, but it’s something fans might have already been speculating.
Pam Dawber’s Return to TV: A Blast from the Past
Pam hasn’t been seen on TV since 2016, so her return for four episodes might surprise some viewers. Her most memorable role was decades ago, starring alongside the late Robin Williams in Mork & Mindy. Although not an immediate hit, the show eventually gained a loyal following and is now considered a classic. Pam’s ability to keep up with Williams’ comedic genius without constantly cracking up was truly impressive.
Mark Harmon, on the other hand, is not known for his comedic chops. He’s a great actor, but his portrayal of Leroy Jethro Gibbs is far from a funny character. Both Harmon and Dawber have managed to keep their private lives relatively concealed, which is quite an accomplishment in Hollywood.

One can’t help but think that Harmon might be ready for an exit after all these years. As one of the show’s founding members, alongside Michael Weatherly, Sasha Alexander, Pauley Perrette, and David McCallum, he’s been there since the beginning. With the arrival of Cote de Pablo and Sean Murray, the show has evolved over time. It might be time for NCIS to see if it can stand without Harmon or simply come to an end.
