General Hospital fans know that it is not an easy job to come into this show filled with so many who have been here such a long time and rock it, but it happens. There are men who have been here a dozen years or more who are bringing nothing but the best to every episode. There are men who have been here a year or two or even five who are doing the same thing. It’s not easy, but it’s possible. If you know what you’re doing, you have great writing supporting you, and you’re able to make us believe you are the character, you can do it. And these men have done that for us this year. They have made us feel not only that they are remarkably talented, but that they are who they say they are. In the land of daytime soaps, you know that’s a real skill. Here are our current favorites based on the job they are doing in the moment.
Billy Miller
Okay, okay. We know he’s not there anymore, but he’s done a job that is not meant to be ignored. He took on a role that was only ever played by one talented man. He became Jason Morgan when we didn’t think it was possible. When Steve Burton left the role, fans were not sure it could be replaced, but the show decided to replace him. We were not sure, but Billy Miller did the job. He did it so well that we didn’t know what to expect when the real Steve Burton came home and everything was changing. Billy Miller was then given yet another impossible task; to become the unknown twin of the man he thought he was while living with the memories of his twin — the one he didn’t even know he had until this point in time. It was spectacular, and he did the job with serious skill. It’s something not many people can say in this situation, but he can say it.
Maurice Benard
If there is something that we can say about Sonny Corinthos, it’s that he is a good and strong man because he is played by one of the single most talented men on television. He is a man who is so good at what he does that this is not a character that could ever be replaced. There is no way that they could bring in another face on another man to have him play this role and do this well. It’s not possible, and we don’t see it happening. He’s been through so much in so many years, but we did not think we’d ever see a day in which he was given a chance to become a man who didn’t run the mob or kill people for a living. His character has been through hell and back with the loss of children, the unexpected birth of a child with a lot of health issues, the loss of a grandchild and so much more. He’s rocked it, and we could not be more excited for him in this new role of his.
Chad Duell
If you really think about it, he’s always been a quiet type. He does what he’s meant to do, he causes very little trouble, and he’s just there so much of the time. But, we’ve seen him coming a bit out of his shell as of late, and we like it. He’s making decisions that seem to be more about his life and his own future rather than that of his parents or his siblings. He’s doing things to change himself to better his life, and he’s learning to follow his heart and his gut at the same time. He’s choosing to be there for himself and his friends, and he’s trying to get through this life and the ugly things it’s handed him lately. He’s handling Nelle, the situation with Sasha, and his friendships with grace and elegance, and we think we are watching him blossom a bit into a young man with a lot to offer. We cannot tell you how much we love that and appreciate that about him.
