Is Will Poulter The Right Guy To Lead Amazon’s Lord of the Rings?

Will Poulter

Well so far it’s hard to say yea or nay as to whether Will Poulter could possibly be seen as a lead in Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings since so much is being kept under wraps. What we do know so far is that the story will take place well before the original tale and will go through the conception of the One Ring and will lead up to the destruction of Sauron and his army, so it’s going to cover a pretty healthy span of time. There will be a good number of character arcs and as a result the series should have a pretty expansive cast unless they’re planning on covering large spans of time in order to create a healthy and robust story without trying to extend beyond their reach. Bethany Guerrero of ScreenRant seems quite optimistic about this series and it’s not hard to think of why since it would seem at first that it were it about the original trilogy then it might not be the best idea, but considering that it’s thousands of years before the original trilogy it could work very easily.

Will Poulter is kind of a hard person to see as a lead but not it’s not impossible to think about since he is a pretty decent actor and is also someone that has been working his way up throughout the years. From We’re the Millers to Maze Runner to Detroit he’s had his hits and misses in there but he’s also been gaining a lot of needed experience so to see him as a lead might be the stretch that he needs for his abilities to keep growing in a positive direction. Whether or not it’s the best idea will remain to be seen for a while but it’s worth noting that he’s already proven himself to be someone that’s worth a shot when it comes to a role and as such should be given this opportunity.

Right now it would seem that his time as a lead in the upcoming series will depend on a few different factors, not the least of which being who he’s going to be cast alongside. Whether the series decides to go with well-known celebrities that have a lot of years in or will decide to try their luck with a newer cast that doesn’t have as much experience will make a lot of difference when it comes to Poulter being seen as an adequate to strong lead since as good as he is, and he’s getting better with every appearance, he’s still one of those that is capable of getting lost behind someone that has more star power and is able to stand out a little more. It’s kind of amazing that such a thing didn’t happen during We’re the Millers since he was working with a couple of well-known actors but at the same time his character was one that a lot of people felt was quite well-done and more than capable of gaining the kind of attention that would make him memorable. As far as other shows and movies he’s been able to do his thing and has been either noticeable or not depending on who’s in the scene with him.

Poulter’s strength of character also depends on what role he’s being asked to take on. From the outset, and I believe that Kate Muir from The Times might agree with this, he still has a very innocent-looking face that’s hard to take serious when he has to be stern and commanding. In a big way his features aren’t soft but they’re not so hardened that he appears to be the kind of person you’d take seriously in an action role. He plays the part of a serious and very stoic individual well, but his appearance is still that of a young man that is still wet behind the ears and doesn’t fully know what he’s doing as of yet. Maybe if the show grants him a full beard, mustache, longer hair, and suit of armor it could help to change that around. If he’s made into an elf it almost seems as though it wouldn’t work as well since his very squarish features don’t seem to line up with the normally fair features that many people expect movie elves to have in this series.

But as it was said early on in the article we don’t know much about his character, only that he’s going to be a lead. That’s what we have to work with for now and until more information is released that’s what we have to go on. Will Poulter is definitely a good actor and there’s no doubt that he’s going to be great in whatever role he finds himself, but until that time when we know which character he’ll be playing you can bet that theories are going to abound that concern just where he’ll end up in the series.
