10 Things You Didn’t Know about Family Food Fight

Family Food Fight

Competitions bring out another side of people; some will become aggressive and do anything to emerge the winner while others will give up when things become too tough to handle. When it comes to a cooking competition, everyone wants to have the most delicious food, but unless your family has been passing down a recipe that results in a mouthwatering meal, then “Family Food Fight” is not for you. If you are yet to watch this new series, here are ten facts to enlighten you about what it entails and those behind its production.

1. The prize is $100,000

The only thing that makes competition exciting is knowing that there is something to keep the contestants interested in winning. In the case of “Family Food Fight,” the winner will take home a cash prize of $100,000 which is quite a large sum considering that some cooking shows like “Chopped” only reward the winner with $10,000. Moreover, apart from the money, the family gets to have the coveted title of “America’s No. 1 Food Family,” which is enough proof that their culinary skills are top notch.

2. It has three judges

Being a judge demands partiality and fairness, and that is the reason there is always an odd number of judges in any competition for democracy. On “Family Food Fight,” the democracy is maintained by a set of three judges who include Ayesha Curry, Cat Cora, and Graham Elliot. Ayesha has already established herself as a restauranteur and cookbook author. Cat Cora is also a professional chef and gained the title of the first woman ever to hold the Iron Chef title while Graham opened a restaurant that came to earn two Michelin stars; joining the only other 14 restaurants ever to achieve such a feat.

3. The food is judged based on three criteria

We have all watched some of the dancing shows which use criteria like creativity, musicality, technique and many others to rate how good the performance was. In “Family Food Fight,” the judges rate the meal prepared based on three criteria. The first one is technique; Cat Cora emphasizes that since she is French classically trained, she is a stickler for technique. The rests are presentation and tastes which Graham is looking for and tells participants that besides flavor, the plate presented should tell him something about the person who prepared the meal and the taste should communicate something as well.

4. Eight families will participate

Family food fought is about eight families competing for the coveted prize, and therefore, each family has three participants who have to be family members. As Ayesha believes that a family that cooks together stays together, each family gets to showcase some of its best family recipes through elimination rounds and timed challenges so that by the end of eight episodes, only one family will remain standing as the winner.

5. Ayesha Curry is the host

Ayesha is not new to hosting cooking shows and made her debut on The Food network by hosting her own show, “Ayesha’s Home Kitchen.” The fact that she does not have any professional culinary training is enough proof to anyone interested in cooking that we all can cook if only we have the passion. She has several cookbooks because her childhood passion became her chosen profession, and besides writing recipes, she posts instructional videos on the YouTube channel started.

6. It features some light cooking sessions

The way to a man’s heart is through the stomach is a saying that has especially been emphasized in the African culture. However, whether you are cooking for your man or the entire family, everybody enjoys a well-cooked meal. We, therefore, could use a few lessons to keep the dishes mouthwatering as we also explore different cultures. “Family Food Fight” will have the judges give us small cooking lessons, which we all agree we can use.

7. It is fit for family viewing

Some of the reality TV shows can be a bit too much for children to watch mostly because the contestants and judges can lose control and use obscene language. For “Family Food Fight,” you do not have to worry about such incidences. Truth is even the judges are not as harsh as what we have seen on other cooking competitions. Here, the judges will instead of harshly criticizing the mistakes made the contestant, make suggestions on how to make improvements.

8. It is produced by two production houses

“Family Food Fight” is produced by Endemol Shine North America in collaboration with Yardie Girl Productions. In 2017, Ayesha Curry inked an exclusive deal with Endemol Shine North America in which the studio will be developing original unscripted content with Yardie Girl Productions, as long as Ayesha Curry gets to appear in the shows, and also executive produce. Endemol Shine North America has been around since its founding in 2002 and is behind the reality series like The Biggest Loser, Parental Control and Tabatha Takes Over.

9. It has six executive producers

The minute you learn that Yardie Girl Productions is producing this show, you fill in the blanks that Ayesha Curry will be an executive producer. Also since Flutie Entertainment has been Ayesha’s management firm since 2014, the show gets to have Robert Flutie executive produce. Flutie Entertainment discovered Ayesha through her cooking show “Cooking with The Currys.” Other producers include Shab Azma who is part of the Flutie Entertainment team. Shab has been in the entertainment industry for over two decades, and her expertise ranges from licensing and branding to talent management.
