If you were a teenage girl or young woman when Twilight came out the chances that you went absolutely gaga over Edward or Jacob were pretty good. The movie was something that a lot of people that didn’t become enamored of thought would be there and gone within a short period. But thanks to a killer soundtrack as well as the fact that vampires and their ability to tell a love story in the manner of an angst-ridden teenager was made into a possibility things continued to progress apace. Before anyone knew it was happening the Twilight series had come alive on the screen and people left and right were choosing Team Edward or Team Jacob while those that were left on the sidelines just stared and wondered how such a thing had happened. But in all fairness the movie did have its moments.
The soundtrack was pretty good too in many ways, as you can hear in these selections.
5. Tremble for My Beloved
In a way it almost makes Edward look like a sadist when it comes down to his denial that he and Bella can be together, only to think that perhaps it could work. It’s an emotional yo-yo effect that with teenagers is quite dangerous since the hormonal changes that are going on at such an age aren’t always as delicate or friendly to a person’s mental state as one would like. But when you add in the fact that he’s so much older than Bella, unbeknownst to her, it kind of puts him in an ill light since honestly he’s a guy that should know better than to manipulate someone that, to him, is just a child.
4. Spotlight
This movie really seemed to benefit from the fact that young women and girls absolutely loved it and would defend its reputation from anyone that dared to say anything even remotely negative about it. The idea of werewolves and vampires existing in the same space and not liking each other at all is great for a lot of people, but when the romance comes in the movie seems to have lost a lot of people and gained a lot more somehow since the whole idea of falling in love with an immortal, an emotionally-tortured immortal no less, is somehow so enticing that many fans couldn’t wait to see it on screen.
3. Leave Out All the Rest
It was kind of easy to go ‘eeeh’ when Linkin Park attached themselves to this film, but then again adding one song to a movie like this isn’t too bad since it was more likely a business deal than anything. And if the band did like the movie then oh well. Their sound is one that manages to pep up any movie they’re in since when Chester was on the mic things just managed to kick off like there was no tomorrow. But the fact that the movie did manage to pull in some of these bands that are well-known and well-liked by the same fan base that they were trying to impress is no accident obviously.
2. Supermassive Black Hole
Vampires playing baseball, it’s a new idea but not a horrible one. There was a lot going on with this movie and those that had read the book likely said ‘yay’ and ‘boo’ all at the same time since like so many other books this one wasn’t bound to hold to the boundaries of the page all that often. There were differences here and there as most people should have expected, but overall a lot of people watched this with hungry eyes and were wanting more when the credits started to roll. By the time the next movie came out some fans were almost salivating as they awaited the coming role of Jacob.
1. Decode
For years now it seem as though Paramore has been looking to become as ground as possible but has always seemed to be just on the fringes of greatness, as though they’ve continually flirted with it without ever taking that relationship all the way. They were actually a perfect band to sign up for this project as they have the right sound and look for this type of movie and are definitely followed by a much younger crowd that seem to enjoy their music. If nothing else they excelled within this soundtrack as it seemed like something they knew how to do and could execute it without fail.
Twilight was obviously the start of something special as the movies that followed would indicate. Though if you’ll notice, interest in the movies kind of started to fade with New Moon and then picked up again as the series started to reach an ending. In fact once the fight scenes really started becoming a part of the movies it would seem that more people became interested.
