After reading about them the band known as Bread didn’t seem to be among those that were meant to be together for a long time thanks to the fits and spurts that the band actually stayed as a cohesive unit. Their name came from the fact that two of the founding members were sitting behind a bread truck in traffic at one time, which isn’t too bad considering how so many other bands have gotten their names over the years. But after hitting the charts and climbing to a respectable position they ended up breaking up only to reunite a little while later, only to break up again. They finally reunited in 1996 but were done by 1997 when the tour they’d come together for was over. At that point they all went back to their own careers, and by the 2010’s two of them had passed away while one was still in music and the other is happily retired.
Here are a few of their songs that made it into TV and movies.
5. In Dreams – If
In Dreams is a creepy kind of movie that was in and out of the public’s notice way too fast since it involves some very great actors and a plot that’s downright sinister. Claire is a regular housewife that starts having visions that come true. When her daughter is kidnapped and murdered she’s already seen the event happen through the killer’s eyes, though she doesn’t know who it is until a bit later. When she does discover who it is she tries to tell the police but is instead committed to a psych ward. Upon getting free she tracks the killer down and the two of them eventually fall to what should be their deaths. The killer however is admitted to the same psych ward and begins to experience visions of Claire taunting him, which is a weird but very satisfying bit of justice.
4. Anchorman – If
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was the type of film that, for some of us, almost made us turn the thing off after the first ten to fifteen minutes. But all in all it somehow became a cult classic and was given a sequel that was just as goofy but just as loved by many people. The whole idea of an anchorman that is still living in the 70s despite the fact that the world has moved on is kind of inane in a way, but if people love it then it’s hard to argue with since Will Ferrell seems to be able to convince others that he’s a great lead, so long as he has a wealth of talent around him to sell the movie.
3. 3 Days to Kill Make It With You
Renner is the kind of man that normally gets the job done, but when he finds out that he has terminal brain cancer that’s spread to his lungs it’s kind of hard to be an assassin when you’re coughing your lungs out or hallucinating thanks to the experimental medicine you’ve taken. Still, he does manage to eliminate one half of the duo that he was sent to take care of and still reconnect with his ex-wife and daughter, thereby making sure that they’ll remember him if anything happens. When he finally has the chance to take down the last bad guy however he doesn’t do it, leaving it up to his handler as he accepts his retirement and eventually gets to live out his life with his family.
2. Supernatural – The Guitar Man
Shows about the supernatural and the people that hunt them, work alongside them, or just try to exist with them have been popular now for quite some time and Supernatural is one of those that has managed to hang on and become a show that people absolutely love. The Winchester brothers are a duo that many people know about and have come to respect throughout their run since they tend to inject just enough comedy into their act to go along with the more serious side that helps to make the show something special as well as endearing. In many ways the supernatural is still unnerving and scary at times but with shows like this it becomes more tolerable for some.
1. American Horror Story: Apocalypse – Baby I’m A Want You
American Horror Story isn’t known for pulling punches but in this past season it truly threw a few haymakers as the world essentially ended with the coming of the Antichrist and the witches from Coven were the only ones that could eventually stop it. In an era where empowerment for women is becoming the big thing this was a huge statement to be made about he power of women, but it was also a way to tie in a couple of seasons that had been seen as some of the best that the show has had to offer.
Bread didn’t seem bound for glory so much as they were bound to produce a few hit singles before finally calling it a day.
