This is one of those cases that if you don’t know anything about the actor who is the main focus of the article you might have been sleeping under a rock in a dark cave for the last decade or more. Jason Momoa is one of the hottest actors to hit the scene at this time and he’s been gaining momentum with each role he takes, good or bad. The guy has a look and a type of charisma that has carried him through several different projects so far that enables him to become a kind of unstoppable force that is only ever hampered by the project he’s in. When you look at him you think action star, and to this point that’s really what he’s done most and where he’s excelled, but he can act out a dramatic scene if he has to. More often than not however you might seem more prone to growling out one line or another as he gets ready to fight.
Here are a few things that some folks might not have known about him.
10. He’s a big man.
Jason stands at about 6’4″ and is a big, burly guy. He’s not the type of person you’d want to meet when he’s angry no doubt but he did get into a fight years back and had to have reconstructive surgery when someone smashed a bottle and injured him with it.
9. He’s in the upcoming Aquaman movie.
So far excitement for this movie is kind of a mixed bag since some people are really hoping it will help to bring the DCEU out of its funk while others are thinking that there’s really no chance of that if Wonder Woman and Justice League couldn’t do it. But reserve some hope since Aquaman is a much more detailed character than he seemed in Justice League.
8. He won Hawaii’s Model of the Year in 1999.
Before he was being cast a big bruiser of a man in some of the most violent films and shows Jason was in fact a model and he did manage to do quite well. Of course if you look at earlier pictures of him it took a while for him to really bulk up.
7. He enjoys a lot of outdoor activities.
A lot of what he does is something that you might say is designed to spike one’s adrenaline, but he also relaxes with Buddhist studies as well so it would seem that he’s kind of a balanced individual on all counts.
6. He was Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones.
Khal Drogo did not mess around, especially when it came to someone messing with his Khaleesi. It didn’t help that Dany’s brother threatened their child either, but the brutality of smothering a person’s head in molten gold is a special kind of punishment that’s reserved for someone whose arrogance is deadly to everyone, including himself.
5. He was in Bullet to the Head.
This is the kind of fight that shows how savage his characters can be since it’s not every guy that gets to go toe to toe with Sylvester Stallone in a movie and kick the holy hell out of him. The list of guys is actually shorter than you would think.
4. He was in Braven.
You can kind of see how he’s getting typecast as a big tough guy since a lot of his roles involve him being an avid hunter, killer, and someone that you just don’t mess with if you can avoid it. But so far that’s been his niche since he has the look of the kind of guy that’s inordinately tough.
3. He’s in the Netflix show Frontier.
If you read your history you’ll learn that the fur-trading business in the early days of the US didn’t involve a whole lot of peaceful negotiations. But history books likely won’t show the kind of things that happen on this series, as a lot of it might be fictional but some of it might very well reflect what went on back then.
2. He was the youngest lifeguard in the history of the Gulf Coast.
He was in his mid-teens when he became a lifeguard, so it’s something to note and be impressed by since lifeguards, full-blown lifeguards that actually help and save people, are usually in their 20s at least when they’re ready to show their stuff. It’s possible to get in there younger, but experience is something you can’t really replace.
1. He’s admitted that the sex scenes in Game of Thrones were the most difficult.
If you’ve ever watched the show then you know that there are a LOT of sex scenes in GoT, and some of them get pretty graphic. While the character of Khal Drogo likely had no problem, Jason Momoa the actor seems like he had a slight issue with it now and again.
He’s not the savage brute he portrays, but he is an interesting character all the same.
