Let’s be honest here, unless you’ve been following Annie Potts for her entire career from the moment she was in Corvette Summer with Mark Hamill, then you probably remember her best as the wise-cracking secretary from the Ghostbusters, Janine Melnitz. She was great in that role but she’s been equally great in many others throughout the years so wondering what happened to her is pretty simple. You don’t have to wonder. Her career has been doing pretty good throughout her life and she’s been around a few times and been doing her thing whenever she gets the chance. Her role as Janine was pretty defining since it gave her a lot of recognition and even brought her back for the second film and a cameo in the remake, though a lot of people don’t want to talk about the remake to be honest. But overall, Annie has been doing great and in all honesty she seems to be thriving as she keeps on moving through her 60s.
Here are just a few moments you might remember from her career that are particularly entertaining.
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters was one of the most hilarious movies ever made, hands down and no argument about it. The film wasn’t ever supposed to be this much of a success and in truth it kind of wasn’t in some ways. But the movie managed to gain a cult following and then became a part of nostalgia for so many that it’s been dubbed as one of the greatest movies ever made. The cast was great, the story was okay, and the effects for the time were actually pretty cool. If you took Janine away though it would be missing that one crucial part that was able to tie it all together, the smart-mouthed receptionist that wasn’t really vital to the team but still managed to keep them in line in her own way.
Toy Story
She was in attendance for the first two movies and then the third one she was cut out due to the life lesson that was being learned apparently since the kids were finally getting rid of their toys and Bo just had to go. After all, a lot of kids don’t play with toys like Bo once they grow up and if they get kept at all it’s for their own kids in the future, meaning that they’ll spend a lot of years in a box, in the attic, or in the basement, gathering dust and just waiting for the moment when they’re taken out again. Bo will be coming back in Toy Story 4 though and it appears that Annie will be reprising the role once again. But will Bo be a changed character or will she remain the same? That remains to be seen.
Young Sheldon

Grandparents are great since they get away with so much and can use the excuse that they’re grandparents and they get to spoil children. It’s true for the most part since a lot of grandparents do this on a routine basis. It’s either called just being a grandparent or getting their revenge on their kids for so many years of worry, struggle, and just general shenanigans that kids get up to. But Potts has definitely earned her role in this since she’s one of the greatest actresses that could ever play a sarcastic grandmother that’s still wise enough to teach a genius like Sheldon what’s what. Plus, it’s just funny to see her in this kind of a role since she’s definitely made for it.
Annie Potts has been in a lot of other shows and movies throughout her career and has almost always had that kind of sarcastic quality to her that has made her so endearing throughout her long career. One would think that it would limit what she could do but she’s made it work in so many different ways that it kind of boggles the mind as to how she’s done it. The truth is that humanity is kind of sarcastic in a way when you really think about it, especially when our ways or ideals are challenged and when we feel as though we need to defend ourselves. Annie Potts has had a stellar career and has made it this way by being kind of sarcastic much of the time, and it has backfired a few times since she’s definitely held herself up as a stereotype now and again with this kind of attitude. But considering that it’s how she really got started and what made her popular in the first place it’s hard not to think of her in this light.
As of now her career is still looking great and her attitude on screen has softened up quite a bit. It’s definitely opened her up as a character and made her a lot more easy to relate to.
