Brooke Burns at 40: What’s She up to These Days?

Brooke Burns at 40: What’s She up to These Days?

If you don’t recognize Brooke Burns don’t feel too bad as she hasn’t been quite as prevalent in movies or TV as others but she has been there. Brooke was known more for her role in The North Shore than anything but has also popped up in a few other places of note. That she’s a good-looking woman who just recently hit her 40s is something that some might call a point in her favor, but seeing how there numerous women in the acting industry that are in their 40s or late 30s and have a much more distinguished career it’s fair to say that when it comes to acting she still has her work cut out for her. If you’re big into Lifetime and Hallmark movies there’s a good chance you’ve seen her once or twice, or more since she’s been present on those channels more often in recent years than anywhere.

People that find themselves landing on those channels tend to stay there for a while since the network seems to find ways to either recycle their characters pretty often or give them recurring roles that people happen to like. It’s not a bad gig really as it means constant work and hopefully constant royalties since some of the holiday shows get rolled out every season and are a big hit with some folks. A lot of them are the feelgood stories that make people all warm and toasty inside when they watch them, so you can’t really go wrong with Lifetime or Hallmark unless you’re not the type that enjoys such things.

As a pre-teen and then an adolescent she had to switch from ballet to modeling.

She was a ballet dancer for 12 years but had to bow out of it when she tore her anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL. This is as many people know one of the most common injuries in any sport and in ballet it is disastrous since an ACL tear can mean the end of one’s career as even after surgery the ACL doesn’t always tend to heal up properly and can suffer from reduced function. In ballet a dancer need to have full use of their limbs and they can’t give up that much flexibility without their performance suffering to the point that they must be replaced or simply resign. Given that she’d been in the art for so long it had to have been painful to walk away, but she did manage to go into modeling at the age of 15 and became fairly successful. Too many people still look at ballet as being little more than a dance but the truth of it is that it is a demanding art form that requires strength, focus, balance, and overall a healthy body. If one’s joints aren’t functioning properly or they’re not as flexible as possible then ballet becomes a no-go. It’s that demanding.

She broke her neck during a diving accident in 2005.

She was diving into her own pool when she somehow had an accident and ended up breaking her neck. This almost paralyzed her but thankfully she recovered and now has a titanium fusion consisting of a rod, plate, and ten screws in her neck. After this she became very interested in researching and helping those with spinal cord injuries. You can imagine a brush with fate in this manner would open a person’s eyes to the very real probability of spending the rest of their life being unable to use certain portions, if not all of their body. Thankfully she did make a full recovery but it’s very easy to assume that she will feel remnants of that pain as she continues to grow older as the body continues to wear down and the trauma that we’ve visited upon ourselves in our younger years continues to mount as the years go by. At this moment she’s doing well and is still acting but it almost seems as if she’s slowed down or is perhaps taking a slight break as her last movie was in 2015 and 2017 was her last TV appearance.

It could be that Brooke is feeling her age just a bit considering the injuries she’s had in the past, but it could also just be that she wants to take some time to herself and enjoy life now and again. Actors lead very busy lives much of the time and it’s very important to take the time to slow down and just enjoy one’s surroundings, family, friends, and whatever else is important now and again. For just reaching her 40s she still looks very healthy and is no doubt still able to do what she loves to do. To this date she is still involved with helping people that have suffered spinal injuries, no doubt thanking her lucky stars that she was given a chance to pull through her own ordeal.
