Guy Builds A Jet-Powered Fire Vortex Cannon

At least this guy that built a jet-powered fire vortex cannon put a disclaimer in front of the video before he got going. Apart from that the technical jargon that he goes into briefly would confuse just about anyone that doesn’t know much about the manner in which this thing is put together, but the idea that it shoots fire would be enough to get a lot of people interested. The design of the thing looks kind of cumbersome, but it’s also just sleek enough to look like it might be impressive. Once he turns it on though the resulting flame burst is pretty but it doesn’t look too much like a cyclone. It has a rather familiar shape but otherwise it’s an impressive column of flame and not much else.

It could be that with fire it’s a lot harder to tell since the difference between moving wind and moving flame is like night and day sometimes, and the wind tends to pick up particles that help define the shape it takes and grant the viewers a rather impressive view that they’d be wise to run from. Flames on the other hand are so bright even in the day time that it’s really hard to get that sensation that they’re in any way cyclonic. Within the chamber it might be that way but what comes out seems like just a big column of fire that does look pretty awesome and has the shape that it’s supposed to but is still hard to really tell. It could be that the flames spin within the chamber and then just burst out, but in any case it looks cool. Speaking realistically this device only seems to serve as a curiosity piece and might not have any real application in the world but that’s what curiosity is for right? Testing out new things and seeing what they do is part of what leads to real-world applications after all.

Plus there’s this weird fascination that some people have with fire that makes perfect sense to them. Some folks are deathly afraid of fire in any form, it terrifies them just thinking about it. Others are drawn to it like moths, almost entranced by the way it moves and how it consumes everything it touches. It’s not just pyromaniacs that are attracted to fire, there is something very hypnotic about how it swirls, dances, and shifts in so many different ways, almost like a thing alive. In some ways and in the minds of some people fire is very much a living thing. It has to have oxygen to survive after all, it consumes whatever it touches, and it offers the chance of rebirth once it’s gone. So it’s not alive in the technical sense that some people would use to qualify such a thing, but in a spiritual sense it’s very much a lively thing all on its own.

You can imagine that the design of this device would be up for renovation if it was ever decided that it would serve a real purpose, and it would probably look pretty awesome.
