Even former president Jimmy Carter seems intent on getting a few knocks in on Donald Trump during his Late Show appearance. To be fair though Carter is being a lot more judicious than some folks since he’s doing his best to pray for Trump and not bash him repeatedly as the subject of the POTUS is brought up again and again. He doesn’t seem to think that Trump will use nuclear weapons, he doesn’t believe that Trump will send the country to war, and for the most part Carter just barely digs at the president while attempting to stay on topic when it comes to his book tour. It might seem like he’s really beating up on Trump thanks to the media but the honest to goodness truth is that on camera Carter is trying to be as nice as he can.
Honestly it’s hard to be nice to a man that isn’t all that nice to others, but some people are still doing it regardless since it’s in their nature to do so. Being decent to a person like Trump is like walking into a place where you know you’re going to get beaten and bloodied no matter if you’re polite, respectful, and even forgiving. You simply know the pain is coming but you’ll take it since it means you have the moral high ground and it also means that there will be some intrinsic reward at the end of all of it. That kind of proves that Carter is the kind of man that is better than many of us since he can turn the other cheek and simply hope and pray that things get better.
Maybe it’s a failing of society that so many people want to bash Trump instead of support the presidency, or maybe it’s the idea that supporting the office is that much harder to do when it’s being run by someone that has no obvious respect for what it means to serve the people. But Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th president, has come to realize in his advancing years that Trump is perhaps not the best man for the job, but he’s the person that’s in office at this time, and no matter what, you respect the office. It’s difficult for those that don’t have the same ideas and beliefs as the current POTUS, but it is important to always respect the position if not the person. That is honestly the one lesson that many people still need to figure out.
Jimmy Carter isn’t dishing on Trump all that much since he has no need. He’s done his part for the country and he continues to do so just by being who he is. His term in office was perhaps disliked by a number of people as well, but he still served and he did in the best way he knew how. Trump has a lot to learn still, especially about being a servant to the country, but perhaps it’s not too late.
