Abby Lee Miller from Dance Moms might be getting out of prison a little earlier than anyone thought. The one good thing is that it’s not her celebrity status getting her out, at least it doesn’t sound that way, but rather good behavior. Ever notice how when some folks get into trouble and then go to jail, deservedly so, that they become a model citizen after a while? Part of that has to do with the fact that in prison you don’t get special treatment, as it should be. You broke the law, you’re being made to pay, and special treatment is something that just isn’t in the cards. But thanks to acting like a decent person, as she does from time to time on camera, Abby will be getting out of her sentence early and back to whatever it was she planned to do once she got out. At this point Dance Moms might take her back or it might not, but some of the dancers and the moms will likely be avoiding her.
On the show she’s an absolute menace. There’s really no way to put it nicely since all you have to do is watch a trailer and see how she is with the dancers, with the moms, and in the confessional space. It’s all about Abby, none of what happens to the dancers is her fault, nothing of what the families are going through trying to keep to her schedule is her fault, and if they can’t commit to the insane schedule then it’s their fault and her reputation that goes down the tubes. This is the kind of thing we glorify these days, and if anything is sickening it’s the fact that it’s tolerated. Yes girls that want to dance need to have dedication and they have to be able to train the hardest if they want to be the best. But these are kids she deals with, not just teenagers, and she treats them equally which is kind of shameful in a way since she doesn’t seem to put a lot of stock in them while she puts every last bit of what they do into her reputation. So if they fail, it’s their fault. If they fail and her reputation goes down, it’s still their fault. At what point does it become about the horrible teaching they’re undergoing?
So her getting out a little early isn’t that big of a deal really as one month doesn’t make a whole lot of difference. But her being a ‘model citizen’ is something of a conundrum since she’s shown in the past that she’s anything but. If bullying a bunch of girls into being the best they can be, and neurotic wrecks at the same time, and committing tax fraud and evasion is being a model citizen then she’d be in the clear. As it stands though she’s got a long way to go to redeem herself as a decent and upstanding person.
Early release seems like a chance for Abby to get one month more of criticism from those she’s been dumping on for so long.
