Steven Spielberg’s Live-Action Halo TV Series Starts Filming This Fall

It has been reported that filming on a TV series for the Halo franchise will be starting up in the fall of 2018, which should come as welcome news for those who have been waiting for some kind of live-action project since the mid-2000s. After all, the Halo franchise has been popular since that time, but the various efforts to produce a live-action project have run into a wide range of problems, including but not limited to missed deadlines, negotiation breakdowns, and basic hesitation. Now, it seems that Showtime and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment have at last managed to resolve the issues that hindered such a project, which is why filming can commence so soon.

What Is Halo?

For those who are unfamiliar with the name, Halo is a series of military sci-fi video games that serve as one of Microsoft’s flagship franchises. Primarily, the series is centered around a futuristic super-soldier named Master Chief John-117, who fights for a future humanity in a series of conflicts with various alien species. However, it should be noted that the Halo franchise has proven to be popular enough to have been expanded far beyond this basic premise, as shown by the existence of spinoffs, books, comic books, and a wide range of other licensed products. Summed up, the fact that there will be a live-action Halo project isn’t as surprising as the fact that the Halo series hasn’t received one until now, which says much about the series of problems that such efforts have encountered over time.

With that said, it remains to be seen how the live-action Halo project will turn out. At this point in time, not too much information has been revealed about what interested individuals can expect from the TV series, though Showtime’s president of programming has stated that the plan is to create something that will appeal to not just people who played the video games but also people who love current dramas running on Showtime. This seems like a logical choice, seeing as how there is a fair amount of intrigue in the source material, but the statement reveals little about important information about who will be the central characters on the TV series as well as what will be focused upon on the TV series.

As for Steven Spielberg’s involvement in the project, that is no guarantee that the live-action Halo project will turn out well. In part, this is because Spielberg won’t be able to spend much time on it because he is serving as a producer and nothing more, though it should be mentioned that the live-action Halo project is not the first time that he has been interested in making an adaptation of the series. However, it should also be noted that Amblin Entertainment’s record with sci-fi TV series has been rather mixed. For example, it was responsible for both the Terra Nova and the Minority Report TV series, which were lackluster one-season shows. However, it was also responsible for Falling Skies, which managed to run for five seasons.

Further Considerations

Regardless, as progress is made on the live-action Halo project is made, more information is bound to come out. After all, Halo is one of Microsoft’s flagship franchises, meaning that there is a lot at stake. Enough so that it is not unreasonable to expect that the corporate titan and other stakeholders will be bringing their A-game to this matter.
