So a lot of people, present company included, thought that Andy Dick was on the straight and narrow now, and for all intent and purposes he is. But in the midst of allegations against him for sexual assault or harassment, or whatever the charges are, he actually licked a photographer’s assistant at the end of an interview. Some chalk this up to “Andy being Andy” and let it go at that, but in the wake of so many sexual harassment lawsuits and assault charges coming after the Weinstein scandal this just didn’t seem like it was too wise. Obviously he was being kind of a card and the assistant didn’t take it personally, so far, but there are a lot of people that might take offense later on, or right then and there and express their feelings with a stiff right hook to Dick’s jaw.
No I’m not promoting violence, but there is a precedent that’s been set and touching people in any way they don’t expect or don’t want has become a big part of it. Now what Andy did would probably not be considered sexual assault since he did stop, but in the strictest terms it would be considered assault at the very least, or so it would seem. Apparently the situation in which he was being interviewed wasn’t all that conducive to his mental well-being and he was quite edgy the whole time and didn’t seem capable sitting still. Of course his ex-wife was there, with her boyfriend who is his best friend, and there were kids there, and pets, and it was kind of a madhouse really for an interview.
So was he wrong to act so out of sorts? Well to be honest a lot of people would say that’s just pure Andy Dick, unpredictable and able to give people a good laugh. But running his tongue over a person’s face out of the blue doesn’t seem like it would be something that a lot of people would find acceptable, even from a star. At this point in his career Andy Dick isn’t washed up but he’s nowhere near the level of fame that he once enjoyed. His status as a star has been kind of diminished over the years thanks to his wild antics and substance abuse problems, and in truth it would seem that he hasn’t quite outrun that reputation yet. After doing things like this however he’s not exactly making any headway towards letting people know that he’s fully on the level.
Andy is a funny guy, there’s no doubt about that. He’s made people laugh and he’s brought a different type of comedy to the screen in many ways that has cemented him in the minds of many as a truly comedic and legendary figure. But too often his behavior off screen made him look more like a cautionary tale than a superstar. I hate to say it but this kind of behavior, even after being put into a stressful situation, doesn’t help him any.
