To clarify, this how-to video is not necessarily a how-to video unless you’re the type that can learn by watching a person while they work and understand what’s needed. That being said, making an AT-ST Walker in the form of a child’s high chair is something pretty amazing and something that any Star Wars nut might find appealing. The only thing you need to really understand is that by taking this project on you really need to understand that, for the safety of your child, you will have to be exact with the measurements and the construction. Obviously you want to make the high chair conform to your child, which means that you need to measure carefully and be fully aware of how heavy your child is.
Plywood seems to be the desired medium of the material used for the chair and its legs, but in truth you could just about anything so long as it’s sturdy enough and can hold the child that it’s meant for. With that in mind there are many ways to do this, but cutting the pieced needed out of a single sheet seems to be the recommended method. This job will take a good deal of precision if you want everything to line up right and it will require a great deal of gluing, which is preferred since you don’t want screws or nails poking the kid when they’re sitting in the seat, and you certainly don’t want to feel them if you have to move the chair over and over. Plus they simply take away from the overall design. There will be a few key areas in which screws might be needed for added stability, but these are easy to conceal so that they cease to be a problem.
Another thing to remember is that once the design is complete and assembled the chair will need front supports. As cool as it looks without them and as much as it might take away from that look, this is still a very top-heavy piece and the moment the kid sits in and decides to lean forward it could very well topple. That’s why the front support is needed just as with any other chair. The finished product is still very impressive but is also not entirely stable, so as with many chairs it will be wise to set it near a table or a counter so as to avoid any unwanted tumbles.
The ingenuity of this piece is great since it is the kind of thing that a Star Wars fan would love to share with the next generation of would be fans. Or it could just be something cool to build and share with people online to show that it is possible and that there’s not as much to it as people might think. It seems cost effective, though it likely takes a good deal of time from start to finish, and it definitely needs to be stained and sealed so as to protect it from any messes the occupants might make.
