What can you learn from watching a show like live PD? At first glance, you might think that there really isn’t anything for you to learn by watching such a show but upon closer inspection, it becomes readily apparent that this show is simply a reflection of society. More often than not, it is a reflection of society during some of its worst moments. If you actually pay attention to the series, there are a few things you can learn. Below or five of them.
1. Cops have a tough job
There are a lot of jobs that are not exactly easy to do the right way, but cops have it tougher than most. First and foremost, they’re working in a job where they can be shot at or have their lives otherwise threatened at any time and more often than not, they don’t get paid near enough money for everything they have to go through. Sometimes, just dealing with the day-to-day issues associated with being a police officer can be enough to make people seriously consider retirement. If you learned nothing else from watching the show, learn that most cops deserve a great deal of respect. If you disagree, think about all the times shots have been fired on this show.
2. People do stupid things
People don’t always make the brightest choices, especially when their minds are impaired by some type of alcohol or drug. In fact, a lot of the people that show up on Live PD are unquestionably making some of the worst choices of their lives. The ones that are truly in trouble don’t even seem to realize that they are seriously altering the course of their lives, even as they are right in the middle of doing so. It can be very sobering to watch someone do something that will lend them some serious jail time, especially when they don’t even realize what they’re doing. Imagine being pulled over and having a joint in your hand, all while claiming that you don’t do drugs.
3. Sometimes it’s funny
While watching the show can really make you stop and think, it can also make you laugh. Even when you are trying to be serious, some of those people just make you laugh until your sides hurt. It isn’t so much that you want to laugh at people that find themselves in some tough situations, but there are times when a person is making a spectacle of himself or herself and you just can’t help it because the whole situation is so ridiculous. Therefore, watching Live PD can teach you to laugh, like when a really mouthy person ends up being taught a lesson or two by a very eager German shepherd that loves his job.
4. Not everyone is mean
Some people have the misconception that all cops are mean. Obviously, this isn’t true. They are just like everyone else. Some of them could learn to be a lot nicer and others have a great deal of compassion and only got into that line of work because they wanted to do something purposeful where they could help others. By the same token, not everyone that gets arrested is mean, either. Sometimes, these are people that have just made some serious mistakes in their lives and they need to find a way to get their lives back on track. In other words, you can’t assume that either side is all good or all bad. It just doesn’t work that way. Think about the person who was stopped for a traffic infraction and had drugs in the car. Both sides seemed to be profoundly affected by everything that transpired. Hopefully, good things happened as a result of it for everyone involved.
5. Officers must have a lot of self-control
Imagine what it would be like to be cursed at, spit on and have someone that is literally trying to kill you. Most people couldn’t take dealing with this type of stuff, especially not on a routine basis. Watching this show will teach you that if you have any intentions of being a police officer, you’re going to have to develop a great deal of self-control. It’s the only way that you’ll be able to deal with it all and maintain your sanity. If you need an example, think about all the different scenes that involve the cursing and the spitting, yet the police officers maintain their composure. There’s at least one in practically every episode.
