What We Learned from the Jessica Jones Season 2 Trailer

It seems like the Marvel universe is alive and well, whether that involves the cinematic version of various Marvel stories or the ones streaming on places like Netflix. While the two have as many differences as similarities, the second season of Jessica Jones looks like it might be getting closer to blending these two universes together, at least if you are paying attention to the trailer.

This drama that streams exclusively on Netflix stars Krysten Ritter as the title character, Jessica Jones. This is the same character that also showed up in The Defenders, a Marvel cinematic production that was released in 2017. As you can see, the stage is already set for more similarities to come into play. If you watch the season two trailer for the show, you can even catch a reference or two that is made to other superheroes that have only appeared in Marvel cinematic productions, at least so far.

What else does the season two trailer tease audiences with? Perhaps most importantly, it looks like a relationship is going to develop more in-depth between Jones and the character’s best friend Trish, played by Rachael Taylor. The two are already close, but during the first season, Trish really didn’t help Jones out all that much with her crime-fighting endeavors. The season two trailer hints that this is going to change in a big way, even suggesting that the two will start to fight crime together more often than apart. After all, Batman had Robin and virtually every good hero needs a sidekick, so it really only makes sense that those in charge of the show would eventually choose this avenue. It also opens the show up to some additional story lines that haven’t been explored in the past, giving showrunners more options as they move forward.

Of course, you can’t have a hero without a villain and the season two trailer promises that Jones’s old nemesis Kilgrave, played by David Tennant, will be back. This might surprise a lot of fans of the show, especially considering the fact that Kilgrave was actually written out of the show during the first season in rather dramatic fashion. Despite that fact, showrunners promise that he will reappear in one form or another, so it will be interesting to see how they handle that particular storyline. It will undoubtedly make for some very interesting episodes, at the very least.

While this is a show that is still really getting its feet under it, it does have a lot of promise. The first season was considered a success and it looks like the second season is only going to get better. The first episode starts March 8th, so fans won’t have to wait very long to see how things start to unfold for themselves. Who knows, someday the Marvel universe that is streaming online and the one that shows up in theaters might be completely interchangeable. This is probably something that dedicated Marvel fans would like to see, as they never seem to get enough of the Marvel universe, no matter which version it comes in.
