It has recently been revealed that the long-awaited sequel to ‘The Passion of the Christ’ is set to go ahead and that it will be the biggest film of all-time with many shocks for the audience. ‘The Passion of the Christ’ is a biblical drama film that was released in 2004. It was co-written and directed by Mel Gibson and based on ‘The Passion’ in the New Testament of the Bible. The movie starred Jim Caviezel as Jesus Christ while Maia Morgenstern took the role of the Virgin Mary and Monica Bellucci played Mary Magdalene.
The movie received great critical acclaim and was also a huge success with moviegoers. The film was made on a budget of $30 million and grossed $611.9 million at the worldwide box office. Those involved with the sequel believe it is set to achieve even greater things. Jim Caviezel has confirmed he will reprise the role of Jesus Christ in the sequel. However, the 49-year-old actor was keeping quiet about many other details of this new project. What he did say was that there are many aspects of the film that will shock the audience and that it is so good it will become the biggest film in history, in his opinion.
He went on to add that ‘Braveheart’ was a film that took a long time to crack and that ‘The Passion of the Christ’ was exactly the same. The actor believes that the sequel will take the same route. Caviezel is also appearing in the upcoming film ‘Paul, Apostle of Christ’. He will take on the role of Saint Luke while Saint Paul is played by James Faulkner. This movie is set for release just before Easter on March 28, 2018.
Mel Gibson has been planning on making a sequel to ‘The Passion of the Christ’ for some time now. In 2016, he revealed that the sequel will be called ‘The Passion of the Christ: The Resurrection’. At the same time, he revealed that the film would not necessarily be a straightforward telling of Christ’s resurrection in a chronological fashion. He went on to explain this further by saying that there were sections of the film that would happen in another realm. Gibson describes the film as exploring the experiences of Christ during the three days between when he was crucified and when the resurrection occurs.
Gibson says that he isn’t sure what really happened in those three days, but that it is something that sets off the imagination. In this sense, the film is Gibson’s personal imagining of the events that may have taken place. The director says that the film takes viewers all over the place. It has also now been revealed that Randall Wallace is set to write the script for the upcoming sequel. He has worked with Gibson previously as he was the screenwriter for the 1995 epic war film ‘Braveheart’.
Wallace had his own comments to make about the sequel. He said that according to the Evangelist community, ‘The Passion of the Christ’ was the biggest movie ever released in Hollywood and were demanding a sequel to the movie. He told the Hollywood Reporter that fans of the original believe that a sequel is set to become an even bigger and better film.
