Some people will know Gemma Atkinson because of her career as an actress. In contrast, other people might be more familiar with her because of either her modeling or her promotional work. Whatever the case, there can be no doubt that Atkinson has done a remarkable range of work over the course of her career. Here are five things that you may or may not have known about Gemma Atkinson:
Became Famous Because of Hollyoaks
Atkinson became famous because of Hollyoaks, which is a British soap opera that started up in 1995 and has continued running to the present. It is interesting in that it sees a high turnover rate compared to other British soap operas, with the result that there is no more than a single member of the initial cast who is still with the TV show. With that said, Atkinson reprised her role in not one, not two, but three separate spin-offs of Hollyoaks, which were broadcast in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Has Appeared in a Wide Range of Projects
Hollyoaks propelled Atkinson into prominence. Since that time, she has appeared in a wide range of other projects. For example, she has had roles in both movies and TV shows, which are in addition to a number of appearances in a number of reality TV shows. Furthermore, she is well-known for being a glamour model, though she has stopped doing glamour modelling as of the present.
Has Supported a Number of Charitable Causes
Over the course of her career, Atkinson has supported a number of charitable causes. For example, there was the time she walked on the Great Wall of China, which was part of a campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer. Furthermore, she has competed in more than one run for a charitable cause, which is on top of having helped to set up the Great Manchester Run in the first place.
Fitness Fan
Given how she has chosen to support charitable causes, it should come as no surprise to learn that Atkinson is a huge fan of fitness who goes to the gym on a daily basis. Besides running, it is interesting to note that Atkinson actually takes lessons for not just boxing but also Muay Thai, which is the Thai martial art that has captured a fair amount of interest from a fair number of people because of how it teaches its practitioners to use not just their fists but also their elbows, knees, and shins. Something that has resulted in it being called the Art of Eight Limbs.
Rumored to Have Read for Supergirl
It seems probable that Atkinson’s interest in fitness contributed to a fan’s choice to create art depicting her as Power Girl from DC Comics. For those who are curious, Power Girl is supposed to be an alternate dimension version of Supergirl, with the result that she possesses similar superpowers but is older and more mature. It is interesting to note that at one point, there were rumors that Atkinson had read for the titular role on Supergirl, which went to Melissa Benoist in the end.
