Yes, There Is A SpongeBob SquarePants Broadway Musical

“Who lives in a pineapple” … That’s now on Broadway? That’s right, folks. In case you couldn’t get enough of SpongeBob SquarePants on your TV, you can now see him live on stage as well. You can now physically experience the nonsensical world that is Bikini Bottom, but is it really worth it to see this show? We are going to talk the ins and outs of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical, and break down how it came to be a hit show on Broadway in the first place.

How Did This Even Come About?

Did anyone else realize that SpongeBob has been on the air for 20 years now? If that doesn’t make you feel old, we don’t know what will. This is what makes this change of pace for the world of SpongeBob enlightening, and allows it to be adaptable for kids and adults of all ages. The plot line of the musical itself falls in line with that of the show, respectively. This story on stage takes us to Bikini Bottom in the midst of an apocalypse (you heard us right), and in the chaos of everyone’s panic, it is up to SpongeBob to save everyone and the community.

Playing To All Ages

As we mentioned before, this light-hearted comedic musical is meant to bring hilarity to all different ages, both young and old. This is obviously done in a variety of ways, and is the reason why it is truly unique. The musical itself brings in some of the subtle jokes that can be seen and heard within episodes of the hit series as well as the two movies that have come about as well. The show also has a great deal of amazing songs, which were all written by different famous singers and songwriters, including the works of Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, T.I., and even Aerosmith. The songs aid in the fast paced plotline that keeps the audience wanting more as the story is told, and is filled with laughs galore.

Live Action

Obviously, because it is a musical on Broadway, it is already live action. But as we sometimes see with live shows depicting fictional and cartoon characters, it is often filled with caddy costumes that make it seem like a show for ages 10 and under. This is, however, not the case with SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical. All of the characters and performers are merely themselves in the same attires as the characters typically are in the series. This helps to make it seem like a legitimate show for everyone, and helps to literally bring this cartoon to life.

Sure, it may seem like a stretch — A stretch that a musical about SpongeBob SquarePants could be a hit on Broadway and be winning the hearts of audiences all over, but this is the case. The show gives people everywhere a lighthearted and warm comedy that also plays with some emotion as the story line goes on, bringing a plot that is really quite convincing in continuing on the legend that is SpongeBob. Although it may seem silly, it may be time to get your tickets to the show today, as it may be one of the next big hits on the Broadway stage.
