Five Things You Didn’t Know about Esther Povitsky

If you haven’t yet heard the name Esther Povitsky, it won’t be long before you do. This actress and writer is best known for her role in “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” from 2015, “Love” in 2016 and “Cocktales with Little Esther” in 2015. For years she has worked as a stand up comic, and is now staring in her own show on the Freeform network, which is why her name is going to become a bit more mainstream. However, if you are still interested in this talented young lady, learn more about her here, chances are you will learn a few new things, even if you have been following her career for a while.

She Turned Down MTV

MTV is known for the production of a number of incredibly dramatic reality television shows such as “Real World” and “Jersey Shore.” However, Povitsky actually turned down an offer from the mega-network when they offered to make a reality show that revolved around her life as a comic. Her reasoning for turning down this show was that she believed it would be much too invasive.

She Took a Train for Three Hours when in College to Take Comedy Classes

While attending college, Esther was also an aspiring comedian and to help improve her skills and ability she would ride on a train for three hours to attend comedy classes that were given at ImprovOlympic and Chicago’s Second City. Obviously, this commitment really paid off as the actress has had roles in several shows in the past and is now set to star in the upcoming series to appear on Freeform, “Alone Together,” which is something she also helped co-create.

The “Alone Together” Show was Sold to Executives Across Several Networks

Everyplace that “Alone Together” was presented (many major networks) wanted to pick it up, however Freeform was eventually selected because there was nothing else like it on the network. Additionally, the executives made it clear that they really wanted the show. According to Povitsky, it was the perfect opportunity to be in a unique space, even though the decision also presented somewhat of a risk.

“Alone Together” is Based on the Real Lives of Stars Povitsky and Aflalo

What many people excited about this new show don’t realize is that it has been written to mime the real lives of both Aflalo and Povitsky — the stars. While the script has been exaggerated for storytelling purposes, for the most part, it is based on what happens in these two comics lives.

Povitsky Has Booked a Recurring Role on “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”

While working to develop “Alone Together,” Povitsky had a recurring role on the hit show from the CW, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” She credits Aline Brosh McKenna and Rachel Bloom as being the inspiration for her to continue moving forward with her new series.

There is no question that Povitsky has quite a bit to offer and anyone interested in learning more should plan to tune in to Freeform to see her new show.
