For a number of “Doctor Who” fans, it was somewhat of a bittersweet holiday this year. There are several reasons for this. The series had quite a bit of buzz about the Christmas special; however, it also was the marking of an end to the Twelfth Doctor’s run, Peter Capaldi. For one of the fans, a heartbroken kid, the end of the twelfth Doctor came with a pretty big silver lining — on December 25th (Christmas day) among his gifts was a note — handwritten — from Peter Capaldi himself.
How Did this Letter Come About?
This letter, which wound up being shared on Twitter by the young fan’s father, was something that quickly went viral. In the Twitter post, the father wrote something along the lines of – Peter Capaldi is my nine-year-old son’s favorite Doctor Who, and he was dreading his regeneration. Then he received a letter, with very kind and comforting words from the Doctor among his presents from Santa. What a kind man. The note sent by Capaldi described the regeneration process of Doctor Who as being “icky” sometimes — kind of like a bad case of the flu. While this was the case, he also encouraged the young fan to look to the bright side of the situation — that the Doctor is never really lost.
What Else Did the Note Say?
The doctor that is introduced as being the new Doctor Who, always becomes the fan favorite and the one who goes away is never really gone — he is always there, located in space and time. Also, if the young fan thinks hard enough, he will be able to see him, and he will see you. Capaldi went on to add that it is similar to what the Doctor always says — While everything ends, and it is always going to be sad, everything will begin again and that is a reason to be happy. He also encouraged the fan to remain happy and have a great Christmas, happy new year and an amazing life.
Introducing the New Doctor Who
With Peter Capaldi being done on Doctor Who, many are left wondering who the new doctor is going to be. For the first time ever, the new Doctor Who is going to be a woman. Jodie Whittaker, has already had a pretty successful career and now, in this role, she is set to reach an entirely new level. In fact, she is going to be the very first woman Doctor Who is the entire history of this character — talk about groundbreaking.
If you are a fan of “Doctor Who,” you may also be disappointed with the regeneration of the latest character.
However, there are even better things coming to the show in the near future, so make sure to keep this in mind as you prepare for the new season. Also, the letter sent by Capaldi should give you a case of the “warm fuzzies” and make you feel good about the change that is on its way for the show.
