Action sequences in 2017 have been getting bigger, bolder, and taking on new dimensions that have elevated them greatly from the fighting and other action sequences of the past. This year’s crop of movies have raised the bar in such a way that next year will have to blow them all away or go back to basics in order to really wow the crowd from this point on. The action scenes this year were a lot of fun to watch even if the movies they belonged to faltered along the way somehow. With each one that came out, and there were a lot, fans were put on their heels wondering just what would happen and how it would go down. A few were predictable but were still kept fresh and new enough that they were engaging enough to be called a favorite scene.
Here are just a few among the many that were that good.
5. Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2
Oh if there were more people like Yondu, perhaps an entire army of them, they’d be unstoppable. Each one armed with an arrow like this as well would make for a force that was nearly impossible to stand against since they could possibly fight from a distance and remain completely safe. Of course in this scene he’s going against a bunch of toughs that aren’t exactly elite killers, but it’s still impressive.
4. Thor: Ragnarok

This is one of the most titanic matches in all of the MCU because it features two of the heaviest hitters that are just short of being on the same level as beings like Galactus and several other that are his match. Thor and the Hulk have tangled in the comics and in a cartoon feature and the Hulk has beaten the god of thunder handily while Thor has also laid the Hulk out in the past. It’s a very even match until Thor realizes his full potential, though World War Hulk vs Thor with the Odinforce could be interesting.
3. Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman came on the scene at just the right time when people needed to see a strong female role model step onto the screen. She proved her worth in the film at first by stepping into the fabled No Man’s Land, where many a soldier had died needlessly during the war, gunned down before they could cross even half the distance to the enemy lines.
2. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
It’s hard to believe that Snoke is really dead, but it’s not hard to believe that Kylo Ren and Rey would stand together for just a brief moment when it came to disposing of the guards that were supposed to be keeping Snoke safe. Given his command of the Dark side they seemed like window dressing really, but obviously they were just a little less observant than they should have been.

Laura is half Logan’s size and yet has all of his ferocity when it comes to whipping out her claws and laying down some sever punishment. Instead of finding a way to revive Wolverine, because there are rumors of this happening, the film makers need to focus on Laura and cementing her place in the MCU.
There were some legends made this year and some that finally faded and were laid to rest.
