Five Things You Didn’t Know About “The Grill Dads”

The Food Network’s new show “The Grill Dads” is a weekly series about two dads who are taking their love of grilled and fried foods on the road. The two go in search of the best versions of the foods that their kids love to eat, and this is the inspiration for the name of the series. If you’re really into grilled and fried foods, but lack inspiration, it’s a good idea to tune in and learn some new recipes and tricks along with “The Grill Dads.” But who are the men behind the show? Here are five things that you probably didn’t know about them.

They are lifelong friends

Mark Anderson and Ryan Fey are the Grill Dads, and they are lifelong friends who share a lot of common interests. They are both extremely fond of grilling, but they also enjoy learning about new dishes, and the more over the top, the better. They are also both fathers who take an active interest in the foods that their children love to eat. In fact, this is the inspiration for each of the grillers.

Neither has much formal culinary experience

Both Mark Anderson and Ryan Fey are just a couple of average guys who enjoy being amateur cooks. They make no bones about the fact that neither have been to culinary school, nor are they famous chefs. Other than some prep cooking in Anderson’s teens, they haven’t done a lot of professional cooking. Their new show isn’t about them showing the world how to grill, but rather, taking us to special restaurants and eateries around America, and showing us the dishes that they are famous for preparing. They have cooked for their families as well as a couple of guest cooking appearances at restaurants, but this is the extent of their experience. More than anything, they are taking us along in search of the best grilling and frying that the country has to offer.

Mark and Ryan started with an IndieGoGo video

The two began their endeavor by making an IndiGoGo video. After it was finished, they heard about “Guy’s Big Project” (Guy Fiero), and made the decision to try their luck and submit a video for the show. They were selected to appear in the competition, where they won and are now in the first season of their own new show that kicked off in November of 2017. They are set for a total of 6 episodes this season.

Anderson has his own business not related to cooking

Mark Anderson shared that he recently moved to Boise, Idaho after he bought a business. He is the owner of a water damage restoration service called UltraClean, of Treasure Valley. He is fond of the Pacific Northwest, and Boise in particular. Although he hasn’t been living in the area long, he declares that he loves the state of Idaho.

Fey and Anderson are taking cooking classes

Although the two are currently amateurs, they are doing their best to learn more as they go. As of right now, the men are taking classes on the techniques that are necessary to properly butcher specific cuts of meat. This will give them a greater level of expertise when they talk with the guest chefs that they encounter during their travels.
