Jon Secada became interested in music when he was a teenager. His family had made their way from Cuba to Florida when he was young and were managing a coffee shop while he was growing up. The biggest influences in his music when he was still young were artists such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, and even Barry Manilow. His music blends together elements of funk, soul, pop, and Latin to create a very melodic harmony that has allowed him to sell 20 million records throughout his career and to be counted as one of the more successful individuals of his time. He’s also done a lot of work as a songwriter for hit singers such as Gloria Estafan, Jennifer Lopez, Mandy Moore, and Ricky Martin. If you’re not convinced of his musical stature yet then keep in mind that he’s been onstage with the likes of Luciano Pavarotti and Frank Sinatra as well.
I kind of thought that might raise an eyebrow or two.
5. Baywatch-Just Another Day
Baywatch seems like the kind of show that would employ the type of songs that Secada sings simply because it’s a blend of action and drama all wrapped into one neat little package. While the clip is in a different language the body language of the two individuals should be easy enough to read. This show was a favorite of many but others found it too much like another soap opera.
4. The Specialist
The Specialist is probably one of the least advised movies that could have been made since it really typecast a couple of its actors, namely Sharon Stone and Sylvester Stallone. Both of them have been known to break out of the roles that they played in this movie in the past but they slipped right back into them without any difficulty it seems in this case.
3. Jon Secada-My Life (Through the Spirit In Your Eyes)
Jon Secada is, without offense, kind of an acquired taste when it comes to music. He’s perfect for slow dancing, for long walks in the park or for just sitting and reflecting from time to time. But apart from that his music doesn’t always move in the same way as other songs, meaning that it doesn’t seem intended to get you pumped up and ready to go. It’s really more for relaxing and enjoying the moment.
2. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno-Do You Believe In Us
As a kid I can remember this song playing at a lot of weddings that I went to. It would be on the playlist of the DJ or it would be one of the most requested tracks that played all night. It was a fun song to listen to for the first couple of times, but like I mentioned above it was for those that really liked it and could tolerate the sound because after the second time it got pretty old.
1. American Idol-Angel
I’m actually surprised to not see Jon Secada more often on American Idol simply because his songs aren’t too challenging and should be able to get more play. It’s all a matter of preference though I suppose, but at least this person does a good job of it.
At this point I’m thinking a lot of the current generation don’t even know about Jon Secada, and that’s kind of sad. He’s a great singer.
