Some TV shows last way too long and begin to lose their veracity and the reason why they were great in the first place, while others thankfully take that final bow and end at just the right time. It could be that the creators believe that they’ve done all they can do and are effectively finished with the show, or it could be that things have been wrapped up so neatly that there’s no point in dragging it out any further. The point is that the shows ended on a high note, or at least in a way that will allow fans to remember them fondly and not wonder just why things got so dragged out before the plug was finally pulled. There are too many shows still kicking around that should have been gone at least a season or two ago that are basically being kept on life support to appease those fans that want to see more and those executives that are trying to make as much as they can from the dying idea that needs to be retired.
The shows listed below however clocked out at just the right time.
5. Mythbusters
For a show that was in the business of making us realize that what we thought could really happen was at times just flat out impossible this was a great series. Every time they came on it was something new to look at and something else to either watch go boom or get debunked. A lot of people were turned off initially when they were forced to realize that their perspective on the world was being shattered one episode at a time, but honestly it was kind of fun to watch.
4. Parenthood
Eventually this one had to end since the kids were growing up and the stories had to become more complex in order to showcase their continued development. Plus, with all four of the Braverman adults now being married things had come to a comfortable point in which the show could bow out on a good note and allow people to remember the good times that had been had.
3. Mad Men
Unless you were a diehard fan this show kind of came and went with a distinction all its own that was low-key and didn’t really make much of a fuss. It was definitely one of the more popular shows to ever come along and earned its place as one of the best ever, but it was also an acquired taste that couldn’t have run for much longer without making a bigger spectacle of itself.
2. Sons of Anarchy
With Clay gone the show began to spiral downward, and with Gemma finally made to pay for her sins it was bound to come to a head. Too many key and beloved characters had been taken away to allow it to run as it had been, and the final key was Jax. Without him there could no longer be a core to the Sons of Anarchy that would serve to keep it together. Bowing out like this was a poetic and fitting end.
1. Breaking Bad
For drug dealers that reach the level that Walter White did there really isn’t much of a chance of retirement. Usually that kind of thing comes with a bullet or some other form of final rest that isn’t by the choosing of the individual. This series ended as it should have, with a cautionary label disguised as a poetic end.
These shows will be missed, but bringing them back as of now would be kind of an insult to the fans.
