Fred Armisen Comedy “Mexico City: Only Good Things Happen”: What We Know So Far

Fred Armisen is known for his talents as a screenwriter, producer, singer, musician as well as being an actor and comedian. Most things that he has his hands on turn out to be good. If you’re a fan of Fred Armisen then you’ll be thrilled to know that he has something new coming up. It’s just been released that he’s going to be entertaining us in “Mexico City:Only Good Things Happen.” In case you haven’t heard about it, here’s what we now so far.

What the show is about

“Mexico City: Only Good Things Happen” is a comedy show from the SNL alum, Fred Armisen who serves as co-writer, along with Julio Torres, colleague from “Saturday Night Live,” and Ana Fabrega of “The Chris Gethard Show.” It’s a Spanish language show that is a pilot from the Broadway Video of Lorne Michaels and Mas Mejor. The show will be set in Mexico City, present day and it will follow a few friends who have a fascination with monster makeup and horror films. This is the pilot for the series that is currently scheduled to be shown in half hour shows.

Cast of “Mexico City: Only Good Things Happen”

This is perhaps one of the coolest things about the new show. Part of the cast will be made up of the writers themselves. We will see Fred Armisen, Julio Torres and Ana Fabrega. They will each have regular roles on the series under the direction of Fernando Frias. The rest of the cast that will appear is still to be determined as casting for the show is actively underway. Execs are reaching out to people who live primarily in Mexico to fill the remaining slots for cast.

Executive producers for the show are Fred Armisen and Lorne Michaels along with Andrew Singer. This is the perfect new project for Armisen, because the series that he’s currently starring in, “Portlandia” is in the eight and final season and will come to an end in 2018.

When can we expect to se “Mexico City: Only Good Things Happen?”

HBO has recently given the new series the green light so preparations are being made to bring it to life. We know that the basics have been covered for at least three of the regular cast members, but other than the go ahead from HBO, not a lot of information is being released about when filming will commence. It’s too early in the process to be able to tell just when production will begin and we’re assuming that much will depend upon Armisen’s schedule with the final upcoming season of “Portlandia.” Since this has been such a successful show, the final season is likely to take up a lot of Armisen’s time, but once the filming has been wrapped up for his current commitments, he will have more freedom to work on the new project that has been officially green-lighted. There is likely to be more information coming out about the launch date in the near future. Until then, stay tuned and keep your ears to the ground.
