Speechless Season 2 Episode 7 Review: “B-R-I–BRITISH I-N-V– INVASION”

Speechless

On this Week’s Episode of Speechless Maya’s Mother comes to town causing her to try and make everything perfect and Kenny reconnects with his father.

The episode opens with Maya doing a Thanksgiving rehearsal dinner with the family and Taylor so that everything is perfect when her mother arrives. Jimmy isn’t taking Thanksgiving rehearsal seriously and says he hates how Maya changes when her mother is around.

Maya assigns Jimmy and each of the kids something to do to prepare for her mother’s arrival. The only one to finish their assignment is Ray.

So that they don’t have to watch Maya stressing Jimmy takes the kid’s to a sushi restaurant and order’s the Godzilla Roll. When Jimmy realizes that he can’t finish the Godzilla Roll like he use to he sends the children ahead to go get ice cream. On Thanksgiving Day Jimmy is upset with himself for not being able to finish the Godzilla roll.

Maya is putting the finishing touches on the table. Every time there is a knock on the door Maya gets nervous because she thinks that it is her Mother. First Jimmy’s brother Billy arrives. Then Taylor and her brother Logan arrive and he has an on going feud with JJ. Kenneth arrives who is trying to get away from his father “The Colonel” (played by Keith David) who quickly finds him at Maya’s house.

After Maya trips and falls with the cheese platter her mother arrives. Maya nervously has a conversation with her mother and then steps into the kitchen to break up an argument between Kenneth and his father.

Kenneth’s father tells her that “The Colonel” was his stage name and him and Kenneth were a singing duo before Kenneth quit. To get Kenneth and his dad to stop fighting Maya, Kenneth and the Colonel sing a song together, which helps Kenneth and his dad to reconnect.

Billy takes Jimmy out to a bar to try and cheer him up while they are there Jimmy gets punched in the face by a woman.

Maya’s mother mistakes Taylor and Logan for Dylan and JJ. Ray asks them to help him by pretending  to be JJ and Dylan.

When Thanksgiving dinner doesn’t go as planned Maya’s mother leaves. Jimmy takes everyone out for sushi and Maya goes to see her mother. She tells her mother that she likes her family as they are and they both agree to work on their relationship.

Kenneth and his Dad sing at a show together, and Jimmy is able to finish the Godzilla Roll with the encouragement of his family.

Overall I think that this is a heartwarming and funny episode.
