Using the Star Wars crawl to display a long line of parking restrictions seems a bit odd. Maybe just a NO PARKING sign would be better. Do you get the feeling that whoever put these up really just wants to send that kind of message by confusing people before they get the point? Some folks are just flat out mean, but the Star Wars crawl was interesting since it’s one of the only times when it happens and the text you CAN see says nothing at all that’s useful. Of course at moments like these I’d like to park a Star Destroyer or a Rebel Cruiser in this spot with all cannons aimed at the sign. The moment the city officials came out I’d ask them just what that sign says as the hum of the cannons starts to build up. Something tells me they’d think long and hard about telling me where I could park.
You can tell when a hit movie is getting close to its release date since the internet tends to go gaga over it and start posting all sorts of clips, ads, and anything and everything it can to gain exposure and more hype for the film. Since the hype for the last one wasn’t misplaced I get the feeling that it won’t be this time either. The only issue I see at the moment is that the mundane ads and clips that are being pushed are becoming a little tedious, not to mention downright silly. This is one of the few that’s kind of on the edge of being funny but almost too corny to really be considered worth watching. There’s really nothing to it but the slow crawl that’s a lot more impressive when it’s full text detail just what’s going on in the universe and what needs to be done about the mounting issues that the heroes and villains have to face.
The slow crawl is something that people have come to expect from Star Wars and at the very least Disney hasn’t done away with that yet. I guess I shouldn’t tempt fate by talking about it but I’m still torn about what Disney HAS done to Star Wars even though I’ll still follow the story. The crawl though needs to be left alone, as it’s one of the most recognizable parts of the franchise.
I’d love to see someone try to put a parking restriction sign in the way of Kylo Ren or even Poe Dameron. That sign would be obliterated faster than you could say “May the Force be with you”. Thankfully you almost never see these types of signs in Star Wars, as it would be a bit ridiculous and more to the point, you might not even recognize them. Even though the most common tongue in the franchise is called Galactic Basic there are so many different races and species that trying to erect any kind of sign that’s not promoting a business of any sort is kind of out of the question. Plus, when most of the craft in the universe operate in the air or in space it’s really hard to worry about parking restrictions.
