Is Disney Setting its Sights on a FOX Acquisition?

Have you ever gotten the feeling that the figure of Mickey Mouse is smiling all the time because of something other than joyful feelings? Maybe you wondered if it was a smile that says “everything the light touches will be mine”. Well now the Disney corporation is setting its sights on the shadowy corner that’s become the Fox studios in an attempt to draw in the cinematic properties that could help it to unite the many different story lines that have been kept apart due to one group of heroes and villains belonging to Fox and another belonging to Disney. At some point it’s reasonable to assume that all of our entertainment will come from Disney. Reasonable, but kind of disturbing.

At this point and time it really seems like Disney is more like a greedy giant rather than a family-friendly company that keeps churning out feelgood movies one after the other. They own so much at this point that it’s possible to see their name on nearly everything you watch or see if you’re really looking. In many ways they run the entertainment world already and are responsible for a massive percentage of the things you see and hear. That sounds a bit ominous doesn’t it? But in truth that’s about how it really is at this time. Disney is a juggernaut that’s not stopping for anything as it attempts to buy up everything it possibly can. Now it’s setting its sights on Fox.

On one hand it would be great since properties such as the Fantastic Four and the X-Men could finally see the kind of crossovers that we’ve really wanted for so long. But on the other hand you’ve already seen what Disney has done to some our favorite movies like Star Wars. Remember when violence was so much more acceptable in the hero movies? And Star Wars actually felt a lot more edgy instead of this feeling like there’s a comfortable barrier to prevent audiences from getting their feelings hurt? If Disney has their way they might tighten that barrier just a bit so that you’ll forget about the constant movie violence and the very real pain of losing characters during the film.

Plus, can you imagine characters like Wolverine and Deadpool making their way over to Disney? The corporation has made it pretty clear what they will and won’t tolerate, and just Deadpool seems like the kind of thing they’d either ruin or toss to the curb. Plus, this last version of Logan was what fans really wanted and remembered from the comics, but it’s fairly assumed that Disney would never go in for something of this caliber. They’ve been changing things up for a while now, but they’re still more or less a family-friendly corporation and aren’t likely to tolerate the kind of mindless violence that some of our favorite superheroes get up to now and again.

It could happen whether we like it or not, especially since if it doesn’t happen Disney has all the power and influence it needs to make sure that Fox’s films get buried at the box office. It might seem petty, but don’t put it past them.
