It’s that time of year again. A time for giving thanks, for being grateful for what we have, and for watching movies that center around this grand occasion in an attempt to enjoy the season and hope like heck that none of us have the same kind of zany time that our favorite movie characters do. If there’s any time that something can go wrong it’s usually around a holiday and it’s almost always when people get together or are trying to get together. That’s when Murphy’s Law seems to come into effect the most and truly wreak havoc with the holidays. Thankfully things usually turn out okay and everything is solved and settled by the end of the movie.
Just be thankful for what you have, and enjoy the movies while you’re at it.
5. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
The entire gang trots out the goodies and the laughs for this recurring holiday special that most of us have probably been watching since we were kids. Nowadays it kind of gets ignored by all those that don’t follow tradition and think that it’s not worth the effort. Do yourself a favor and watch it just to see what you’re missing and what you might remember.
4. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Everyone should have a friend like Del Griffith as least once in their lives, and then remember the good times that were punctuated by the ridiculously bad ones. Throughout it all though Del somehow remains so positively upbeat that it eventually gets to Neil and he can’t help but admit that the adventure he took with Del was worth remembering.
3. Dutch
Doyle is truly a piece of work. Of course Dutch isn’t exactly an easy person to work with either since he has his own ways of getting by that thoroughly infuriate the young Doyle and prompt him to get in one fight after another with the tough but fair Dutch. By the end of the trip however Doyle has thankfully come to realize that his hardened exterior is no longer useful and opening up is the real way to enjoy life.
2. Scent of a Woman
Frank is no good, he even says it himself. But when push comes to shove he’s not the worst person to have in your corner for your defense. That being said he’s a destructive force to his family that doesn’t mind saying what’s on his mind no matter if it offends the entire family and further pushes him down the wrong path. He’s not a family man, but he’s honest at least.
1. Son-in-Law
Pauly Shore is about the last guy I’d want to see on a farm or proposing to my daughter. The guy is cool of course, he’s fun, but he’s also not cut out for farming life no matter how he seems to be getting into it. But then in a movie anything goes so in truth he really does manage to spice life up a little bit and break the family out of their humdrum existence.
