NCIS: Los Angeles Review: Mosley Steps Into The Field

NCIS: Los Angeles

The ninth season of NCIS: Los Angeles has had a bumpy start. With Hetty out of the country and Granger gone, the dynamics in the office had to change. During this transition period, there hasn’t been the same level of comfort and ease within the team. New EAD Mosley’s underlying threat to disband the team, and specifically to do away with Deeks, has made the environment just a little more cautious in a space that shouldn’t be. People who spend their days putting their lives on the line for others shouldn’t have to worry that they’ll be pushed out for doing a good job under new management. In a hopeful turn of events, the latest case put a more positive light on Mosley.

NCIS searches for stolen M27’s meant for Camp Pendleton. Byron Brown, Sam’s friend from the Kalinda agency which provides security and gives back to the neighborhood, seems to be involved. Even though Brown resigned from Kalinda, Sam doesn’t believe for a second that his friend would switch sides. Originally, the guns were supposed to be the prize. However, the fact that the hired thief was so easily given the guns to sell is a huge red flag. Why throw away valuable weapons and keep a commercial truck? Perhaps because that weapons truck had the company logo on it, thus makes for good camouflage to sneak into an event to kill someone. Mosley checks into the Bradford-Livingston company’s gun range charity event under her own name, with Callen and Sam as her security. The party doubles as a platform for Bradford to announce his retirement from the gun business in order to focus on the company’s more charitable projects. Bradford had no idea his own company was supplying guns to a war zone that he was trying to bring food, water, and educational supplies too. They figure out that the Livingston side of the company was holding Brown’s family hostage to lure him into taking a hit out on Bradford. Mosley charms the rest of the party to distract them from what is really going on, while Hidoko saves Callen with some expert marksmanship of her own.

Mosley and Hidoko endear themselves a little bit more to NCIS, and vice versa. Mosley probably knows that Deeks scratched her new Porsche, but like Hetty, will not bring it up again. This is the first time we see similarities between the two that could indicate Mosley fits with the group. Realistically, it’s up to the group to either fit or suck it up under new management, but that’s not how it should work in a job like this. Additional stress isn’t good for anyone. Eric managed to locate Hetty, or where he thinks Hetty is. She permanently docked her boat in Hawaii to get her staff off her trail.

Hetty wanted to disappear, but is it for good? Does that mean Mosley will really keep Hetty’s job for good?
