So when you know nothing matters, the universe is yours. That’s an interesting way to look at things, and of course it would be brought to light by a show that is just this side of the nuthouse. Rick and Morty has got to be one of the craziest and most over the top cartoons to ever come to cable in the history of TV. That’s not necessarily a good thing since it seems like they throw a bunch of ideas in a blender just to see what might come out.
I’m not a critic, I’m just another writer, but this cartoon is, in my opinion, about the most brainless thing to come out since Spongebob. Take from that what you will but this cartoon, to me, is one of the most moronic things I’ve ever seen. Even just watching the previews makes my eyes hurt and my IQ start to lower from the few minutes of exposure I get. Now when it comes to the fans of this show, and it has many upon many somehow, my opinion doesn’t matter much and that’s fine. To each their own I say, those that love it can defend it to the death, while I decide to do what comes natural when I see something so insanely off the rails that it seems to threaten even the limits of insanity more often than not.
And yet somehow the cartoon persists, and somehow people continue to find themselves glued to the idiocy that is the messed up relationship that exists between Rick and his family. Why? Is utter madness somehow that attractive? The clip below is just another example of how Rick is such a toxic presence in the lives of his family that he’s as untrustworthy and disloyal as anyone could possibly be. If this is the future of adult cartoons then the whole network might be better off just shutting down to prevent it from spreading any further.
These remixes of Rick and Morty seem to be getting more and more nuts as time goes on. I can still hear the inane song of Pickle Rick in my head from time to time and it forces me to listen to something else for hours on end just to drown it out. But people somehow believe that this show is cutting edge and worth continuing season after season. You might argue that the Simpsons started out the same way but in all honesty the Simpsons have never, EVER been as crazy as this show. Nor have they been as dedicated to utter confusion and lunacy as Rick and Morty seems to be.
It’s very easy to condemn a show if you’ve never watched it, but thanks to these clips and several other articles that have centered on the show I’ve watched a lot more than I care to just in an effort to understand the insipid program. In my opinion it’s not smart, it’s not groundbreaking, and it’s a ripoff of a great number of other shows just for the fun of it.
But again, that’s all a matter of opinion.
