Let me go on record to say that Kenny G is a very talented man. He’s amassed a great following and has had a career that’s been highly successful for a lot of years. His skills are not in dispute but his reputation among those that either don’t understand his music or don’t want to is one of ridicule for the most part. In some cases Kenny’s been a good sport and taken the spoof to a level that’s actually very funny. In others he hasn’t sued at least so that’s something. But there are a lot of funny moments that involve Kenny G and his music and have been made into a part of pop culture that has been embraced by a lot of people before being forgotten.
Here are a few examples.
5. Snickers Commercial
You’re not you when you’re hungry. I’ve got to admit though when I’m hungry I don’t feel like Kenny G in any way shape or form. To be honest I think that stating that a guy might feel like Kenny G would be an upgrade in this kind of company, not so much because of the class level but more or less because there’s a good chance that the guy’s story would have been little more than the buildup to a crude joke.
4. My Imaginary Friend is Kenny G
I can think of worse imaginary friends than Kenny G. After all a lot of people tend to think his music is pretty great and soothing for the most part. But being outclassed and outdone by your imaginary friend is kind of a bummer sometimes since it seems like your imaginary friend is someone that…..wait, is Kenny G the lighter side of Tyler Durden?
3. Family Guy
Oh, poor Kenny. I won’t say poor Katherine because of reasons that I won’t say here because that would be wrong and defamatory. But anyone placed against Peter Griffin’s but seems to be relegated to a position that’s as unfavorable as a toilet seat on taco night. Yeah, I just kind of threw up in my mouth when I visualized that one too.
2. Saturday Night Live
Now if you get spoofed on SNL there’s a good chance that it means you’re doing something right, or something horribly wrong. On the upside since Kenny G’s music has been emulated in so many different ways it’s safe to say that they’re paying him homage in this spoof since it’s not really that bad. SNL is after all a comedy show and designed to spoof people.
1. Alpha Dog
It doesn’t come until the very end when Johnny is making his way back into the states, but the reason I thought it was funny was because Eminem was playing when the rest of the group got caught, and suddenly Kenny G is playing when Johnny finally gets busted. That was just an odd turn of events that I wasn’t expecting for a film like Alpha Dog.
So Kenny G has had a lot of funny moments in his career. I wonder if he expected that?
