Kristoff St. John was born in New York City on July 15, 1966. He is an actor who started his career in childhood and his first role was Alex Haley in the ABC series ‘Roots: The Next Generation’. His first major role was in ‘Charlie & Co.’, a series which was aired on CBS. He is now best-known for playing Neil Winters on ‘The Young and the Restless’. This is a television show in which he has appeared from 1991 to the present day. In addition to his television work, Kristoff St. John has also had many movie roles. His most recent was as Smitty in the horror movie ’20 Feet Below: The Darkness Descending’. Here are five things you might not know about Kristoff St. John.

1. He Is an Award-Winning Actor

Kristoff St. John has been nominated for many different awards throughout his career. He has won six NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series. His talent has also been recognized by his nominations for Emmy awards, including two wins; one for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series and one for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

2. He Comes from a Theatrical Family

It is no wonder Kristoff St. John chose to pursue a career in acting as he comes from a theatrical family. His father is the actor and director Christopher St. John. His mother, Maria St. John, is also an actress. Both his parents supported his decision to act from a young age.

3. He Has Suffered Personal Tragedy

He was married to Mia St. John from 1991 to 1995 and together they had two children; Julian and Paris Nicole. He then married Allana Nadal in 2001 and they had a daughter, Lola, before divorcing in 2007. Sadly, his son Julian committed suicide in 2014 after battling mental health problems for many years. Julian was an aspiring artist who had inherited his father’s good looks. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 18 and his parents were left devastated by his death.

4. He Has Appeared on Reality Shows and Game Shows

In addition to his acting work, St. John has made television appearances on both reality shows and game shows. In 2008, he got a tattoo on a reality TV series called L.A. Ink. When he has appeared on game shows, it has been to raise money for charities. The shows in which he has participated have included Hollywood Squares, Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, and Pyramid.

5. His Scenes from ‘The Champ’ Were Cut

In the 1979 movie ‘The Champ’, Kristoff St. John played a character called Sonny who was the best friend of TJ, played by Ricky Schroder. However, all the scenes in which Kristoff St. John appeared were cut from the movie meaning he was not credited in the movie. ‘The Champ’ was a remake of the 1931 film of the same name and it was directed by Franco Zeffirelli and co-written by Frances Marion and Walter Newman. In addition to Ricky Schroder, this movie starred Jon Voight and Faye Dunaway.
