Black Lightning executive producer Salim Akil announced casting of his season 1 prime villain, Tobias Whale. “Krondon’s authentic street sensibility along with an insightful intelligence is perfect for the Tobias [Whale] character arc,” said Mr Akil’s statment. “Not to mention his regal physical bearing,” Mr Akil announced casting of Los Angeles rapper Marvin “Krondon” Jones III as a Black Lightning series regular, Tobias Whale. Mr Akil raved about Mr Jones’ audition, “I was excited about Krondon when I saw his audition. He’s going to make a great Tobias!”
In the milieu crafted for the CW’s next great superhero show, Salim Akil and his creative partner and wife Mara Brock-Akil interpret Tobias Whale as a disgraced politician. Rising through the ranks of Freeland city government, Tobias climbed with corruption and violence. Exposed by the hero’s father, Alvin Pierce, Tobias murdered the elder Pierce and went to ground. Now, as the leader of violent street gang, The 100, Tobias reemerges. Tobias and The 100 bring fear to the same neighborhoods where high school principal Jefferson Pierce has brought shelter.
Like his character Tobias Whale, Mr Jones is albinistic. Known in the Los Angeles underground hip-hop scene as solo rapper Krondon, Mr Jones released a debut album Everything’s Nothing. Mr Jones formerly fronted Strong Arm Steady. More than somewhat new to acting, Mr Jones has two credits in IMdB. He played one character in a 2011 episode of Harry’s Law. He also appeared in documentary Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton. Everyone started somewhere, so did Krondon, writing for a number of rap acts, including Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre and Xzibit. Mr Jones joins a cast that includes Cress Williams as the titular hero, along with Christine Adams, China Anne McClain, Nafessa Williams, Damon Gupton, and James Remar.
