It is an inspirational series that promotes a feel good environment that is filled with hope that the ideal life does exist. Although this isn’t the case for most people, it makes viewers feel good about life and it offers a snapshot of how life could turn out in a semi-perfect world. Abby O’ Brien leaves her small hometown to go into the world and make a successful life for herself. She comes back home to visit as a single mom of twins, divorced, and meets up with the people she once knew. This also includes her former high school sweetie. The small town appeal and familiarity is so comforting that she moves back to [easyazon_link identifier=”B072HP2GKD” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Chesapeake Shores[/easyazon_link].
Here are five things that you didn’t know about the series.
1. The show’s popularity is based on escapism
There are a lot of women in the country who would love to trade places with the character Abby O’Brien. Sure, her marriage didn’t work out, but she’s being given a second chance. She is successful, beautiful and smart. She also has a love interest waiting for her in her hometown. Each episode gives viewers a break from what some know to be harsh reality and takes us into a what-if scenario where the life of this woman is beginning all over again. It allows people to escape into a beautiful world for an hour a week. We say, good job to the writers.
2. It reinforces the notion of family
The focus of the show is upon family. Abby’s father Mick, played by Treat Williams served as her inspiration to become a workaholic and gain success. The female figure in her life is her grandmother Nell, played by Dianne Ladd, who reinforces family values in a rough manner, but she means well. Abby’s mother in the show, left Mick and the kids when they were small. When Nell is injured in a fall, the siblings all come home, showing that they are a tight unit when the chips are down.
3. The show is educational
Abby’s dad was too busy with his career to be there for his family. In the series, Abby is learning from her father’s shortcomings. She realizes that she is doing the same thing to her children that he has done to her. This is an important aspect of the show, because it teaches us to become introspective and ask ourselves if our lifestyle is potentially harming the ones that we love the most. It’s good to take a step backwards now and then and re-evaluate our positions in life. Nell calls Mick out on his absenteeism as a parent and when he tries to justify his actions, she makes it clear that he has some things that he must make up to his children.
4. There are some elements of the real world included
The situations which are written into the ongoing story are not all fairy tale scenes with romantic overtones. We’ve received information that the cute and flirty romance that is unfolding between Abby and Trace is going to have a few complications that happen outside of the movies on a regular basis. We’ve heard that there will be some competition for Abby as a love interest coming into town. This could turn the idyllic storyline into something that is more grounded in reality. Very little in life that is good, goes off without a hitch of some type. Life is full of complications and that is the good thing about this series that gives it just the right amount of balance.
5. The filming location will surprise you
Many fans just assumed that the show is taking place on the Eastern coast of the U.S., but this isn’t the case. The filming location is actually at Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The location is perfect to offer the ideal background of the series, which is no where near Chesapeake Bay, as some viewers previously thought.
