After nearly a thirteen month wait, winter has arrived, Game of Thrones is back! The premiere came and went, far too quickly, and set the story for the season to come. From the giant White Walkers heading to the wall to the war Cersei will no doubt insist on having, the season is going to be a blood bath.
“Tell them the North remembers. Tell them Winter came for the Freys.”
The opening scene was everything and then some. At the end of season 6 Arya killed Walder Frey, the season opened up with Frey hosting yet another meal. Only to later reveal that it was Arya wearing his face in order to kill the rest of the Frey. “Leave one wolf alive and the sheep are never safe.” She tells them that she’s there to avenge her family. Arya has always been a badass, this scene just multiplied it tenfold. You go girl! My only wish is she reunites with Sansa and Jon at some point.
“I don’t need your permission to defend the north.”
Lyanna has been a firehouse from the getgo, but when the men around her suggested that the girls shouldn’t be fighting in the battle to defend the north, she was going to have none of it. Who says girls can’t help to defend the north? Why should they be the ones sitting around knitting while the boys go out to fight? The battle they were about to face will needs all hands on deck. Jon knows this and he suggested getting everyone trained. Lyanna naturally agreed and was not about to call out the men. You go sista! Show them that girls can fight.
Bran makes it to the wall
After a long struggle, Bran makes it to the wall and they let him through. He’s had a vision showing that the whitewalkers were on their way and they have giants. Will going through the wall make it vulnerable seeing as he was marked last season, allowing the Night King to kill the three eyed raven. Keep watching to find out.
Ed Sheeran cameo?!
As Arya is headed south she happens upon some singing and lo and behold, there we have Ed Sheeran making his Game of Thrones debut as a knight. This left viewers flabbergasted. What on earth is Ed Sheeran doing on GOT? And singing, no less. We all know he’s a huge fan but this was weird yet satisfying. The scene ended with all the boys laughing at the thought of Arya going down to Kings Landing to kill the queen. Don’t underestimate her boys. She’s more than capable.
The Dragon Queen arrives
After nearly 50 minutes of just mentions of the Dragon Queen, Dany finally lands at Dragonstone. Hardly any words are exchanged while she takes a look around and gets ready to get to work. “Shall we get started” and the close plays out. Well played Game of Thrones, well played indeed. Make us wanting more. She’s ready to take back the world and the Lannisters are fulling themselves if they think they can take on three dragons.
The hour went by far too quickly and left you wanting more. The battle is just beginning but if the premiere said anything it’s don’t mess with the women. The season opener was all about girl power.
