Hair Goddess is an exciting new reality show that is airs on TLC. It follows the life of Christina Oliva, an entrepreneur who is transforming her small, family-run business into a hair care empire. The program shows her at work in her salon, planning the expansion of her business and spending time with her family.
Here are five things you might not know about TLC’s Hair Goddess.
1. Christina Oliva Started Her Business from a Garage
Oliva is now a successful woman with her own salon and a TV show but she started right at the bottom. At the age of just 18, she launched her own hair extensions company using the garage of her parents’ home as the base. She soon opened her own salon on Staten Island and she is now expanding her budding empire to Manhattan.
2. Family is an Important Factor in the Show
Although the focus of the show is Christina Oliva and what she is doing with her business, her family are also heavily involved in the program and this Italian-American family is extremely close-knit. Her parents, Frank and Donna, have supported her throughout and she works closely with both her sister Victoria and her cousin Anthony. Despite the close family ties in the business, Oliva maintains a professional relationship at work.
3. The Show’s Transformations Are Big Stories
There are many television series where people undergo an amazing transformation of some type; this could be a new hairstyle, the work of a makeup artist, cosmetic surgery or a glamorous new wardrobe. However, the transformations on TLC’s hair goddess are different as the people undergoing the changes have emotional stories. For example, one lady has undergone chemotherapy and then there is the set of twins who each want their own look and style.
4. TLC Fell in Love with Christina’s Accent
One of the reasons why TLC opted to air this show was that fell in love with Christina’s accent, according to Nancy Daniels, TLC’s President. They also felt that the whole family came across as fun characters that the public would enjoy watching. There must be something appealing about the people of Staten Island as Hair Goddess is not the only show aired on TLC that is based in the borough. Other shows include ‘Staten Island Cakes’, Mob Wives’, and ‘Staten Island Law’. Each of these shows has become a hit with the viewers and ‘Hair Goddess’ looks set to follow.
5. Oliva is Successful in Both Her Business and Her Personal Life
The show focuses on Oliva’s business success. However, she is also successful in her personal life. She is happily married to an entrepreneur in the car business. This has pleased Oliva’s traditional parents who want their daughters to enjoy a happy marriage and have children, so Oliva is halfway to fulfilling her parents dreams already. Unfortunately, the viewers of Hair Goddess will not get to see Oliva’s husband on the show as he has opted out of making an appearance stating that he is camera shy.
