Jared Padalecki is best-known for his role as Sam Winchester on Supernatural, which has been running for more than a decade. Padalecki’s first role of importance was Dean Forester on Gilmore Girls, showing up as a main character in Seasons 2 and 3 as well as a guest star in Seasons 1, 4, and 5. He played Rory Gilmore’s first serious boyfriend on the TV show, though their relationship was complicated by his jealousy as well as their divergent paths. In the end, Dean Forester and Rory Gilmore went their separate ways, though Padalecki did make a brief amicable appearance in the revival.
Friday the 13th
Released in 2009, Friday the 13th was meant to be a reboot of the Friday the 13th franchise, meaning that it was actually the 12th installment. In it, Padalecki played Clay Miller, a young man searching for his sister, Whitney, who has been kidnapped by Jason Voorhees while camping out by Crystal Lake. Over the course of the movie, the serial killer kills all of the campers at the campgrounds with the exception of Clay and Whitney, though the movie ends on a sort of cliffhanger with him bursting out of a wooden dock to grab Whitney in spite of what should have been a fatal wound.
Cry Wolf
Cry Wolf is another example of a horror movie in which Padalecki played an important role. In this case, he played Tom, who is the roommate of a new student at a prestigious boarding school named Owen. Along with some of their friends, the duo are invited to play a game called Cry Wolf, in which one person would be marked a wolf while the others would have to guess who had been marked in this manner. Unfortunately, the game soon becomes something much more serious as people start getting murdered, though the exact revelations are not what most people would expect. In total, the movie cost $1 million to make but managed to make $15 million.
House of Wax
Some people might remember House of Wax, which was a 2005 remake of a movie by the same name that came out in 1953, which was a remake of Mystery of the Wax Museum that came out in 1933. This time, Padalecki’s character is one of the first to die, having been covered in wax while still alive, having lost much of his skin through an ill-fated attempt to save him, and then killed by a madman with a machete.
Room 401
Given Padalecki’s association with horror, it was perhaps inevitable that his reality TV show would be something along the same lines. Although it lasted no more than eight episodes, Room 401 was striking in that it pranks people by playing out horror movie scenarios right in front of their eyes. As a result, some of the pranks were spectacular, with examples ranging from the man who is struggling to hold onto his head to the people who are flash-frozen by liquid nitrogen.
